Now Hiring Immediately School Bus Drivers! (For Class B or higher CDL holders and/or individuals with a Class B or higher Commercial Learners Permit (CLP) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.)
Transdev Services, Inc. is seeking School Bus Drivers for its Boston Public Schools transportation contract. The School Bus Driver operates a school bus and transports students safely in accordance with Company policy and local, county, state, and federal laws.

Responsibilities:
  • Safely operates a vehicle on an assigned route in transporting passengers to and from designated locations, as well as related activities, in a safe, timely manner.
  • Maintains, reads and understands route sheets including time changes and notifies supervisor immediately of any changes.
  • Maintains good work habits through timeliness and low absenteeism for daily assignments and extra trips.
  • Properly cares for the assigned vehicle and its component parts as prescribed by the company to ensure safety, minimize wear and to extend its useful life.
  • Operates the two-way communication equipment correctly and according to company policy.
  • Inspects each vehicle before, during and after each trip using correct procedures and completes all necessary forms and reports. Operates the vehicle and stops to allow passengers to board and disembark using safe and responsible procedures.
  • Operates adaptive transportation lift to board and discharge challenged passengers using safe and responsible procedures.
  • Keeps vehicle clean and orderly with daily cleaning after each route operated, as well as check for lost items.
  • Maintains a presentable appearance which includes being properly dressed according to company standards, neat grooming and good hygiene.
  • Maintains a cooperative attitude with fellow employees, supervisors, passengers, always promoting company goodwill.
  • Must be able to fuel vehicle in accordance with company standards.
  • Controls emergency situations in proper manner.
  • Controls vehicle keys, fueling slip receipts, pre-trip and post-trip forms while in possession, and turns in to dispatch as required by your supervisor.
  • Successfully completes driving skills evaluation.
  • Attends all required in-service training, company required safety meetings and training, and any other required meetings.
  • Must be able to comply with all contractual obligations as well as all local, state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to the operation of the vehicle.
  • Immediately reports every accident, no matter how insignificant the accident may appear.
  • Accurately maintains proper shift documentation reports and records.
  • Follows the correct end-of-shift procedures.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as required.
Preliminary Education, Licensing, and Certifications Required:
  • Must possess a valid Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a Class B or higher Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) with Passenger and School Bus endorsements.
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record.
  • Must meet the requirements to attain and maintain a Department of Transportation (DOT) medical card.
Preliminary Experience Required:
  • Must be a licensed motor vehicle operator with no suspensions or revocations within the last three (3) years.
Postliminary Requirements and Preferences:
  • Must obtain Passenger and School Bus endorsements as a condition of employment.
  • Must obtain a valid School Bus Certificate as a condition of employment.
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of previous professional driving experience which can be confirmed with your previous employer preferred.
  • Previous bus or other heavy duty vehicle driving experience preferred.
Skills and Knowledge Required:
  • Must exhibit both written and spoken communication skills and communicate effectively.
  • Must be able to read a map and possess knowledge of the service area.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must be hospitable, guest/customer service oriented, and be willing to serve the needs of passengers.
  • Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and defensive driving.
  • Ability to safely drive various vehicles.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and passengers.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to perform duties under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to make independent judgments which have moderate impacts on the organization.
  • Must undergo a pre-employment drug test and physical by a company appointed physician/facility and receive clearance.
  • Travel requirement (as a percent): 100% of time is spent in the field.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Must pass: a pre-employment physical, drug testing, background screenings, and a criminal background check including fingerprinting.

  • 90% of work is accomplished outside or in a vehicle. Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold and in wet and/or humid conditions.

  • Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations with moderate noise.
  • Frequently required to sit.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle or feel; reach with hands or arms; and talk or hear.
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs, repetitive hand-wrist motion, and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, crouch or crawl.
  • Must be able to work a flexible work schedule as needed.
  • Occasionally required to lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • The vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and ability to adjust focus.
