Invitae, now part of Labcorp, is seeking a Molecular Technologist to join its team at its Metropark location in Iselin, NJ. This role will be responsible for performing high-complexity diagnostic testing on patient specimens, primarily focused on NGS platforms. The work requires excellent attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to multitask as well as work independently within a team environment. Responsibilities:
- Performs assigned routine and non-routine laboratory experiments including DNA/RNA isolation, NGS library preparations and sequencing using various techniques and platforms
- Follows written lab procedures for the correct handling and processing of specimens. Performs lab procedures of moderate and high complexity in accordance with standards set forth in standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Operates laboratory instruments and performs routine maintenance & procedural calibrations
- Maintains project and sample information, protocols, and experimental details through the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
- Assists in the orientation and training of new employees.
- Performs quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records
- Identify and document problems that may adversely affect test performance and notifies the supervisor, assistant director(s) or director
- Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
- Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens
- Adheres to the laboratory’s quality assurance procedures including documenting all quality control activities, instrument and equipment verifications, and maintenance and preventive maintenance
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related life science field
- 1 year of experience working as a Technologist in a clinical lab required
- ASCP MB or ASCP MLS certification preferred, not required
- Previous molecular diagnostics and NGS experience highly preferred
- Ability to work independently within a team and strong attention to detail
- Strong organization skills
- Must be flexible with time and adaptable to change
- Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen
- Ability to work overtime as business needs
