This position is a quasi-full-time role, requiring 36 hours per week: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with 12-hour shifts available for either day or night schedules.

LPNs provide evidence-based nursing care utilizing the nursing process, principles, practices and techniques of general nursing care as determined by Standards of Practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Screens for sick call, administers medications, and provides first aid and basic life support to patients and employees as needed.
Maintains open lines of communication with security and treatment staff while providing input and feedback to assist the facility provider in organizing a treatment plan.
Records all pertinent information into the medical record.
Interacts with other departments as needed.
Promotes continued competence through education/certification with a focus on correctional nursing.
Nurses must have the ability to work hours, days and locations as assigned along with being capable and available to provide coverage as needed to meet institutional needs.
Assignments to other duties or locations may be necessary to meet the clinical and administrative needs of the Department.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Must possess and maintain a valid unrestricted Virginia Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) license issued by the board of nursing or a multi-state compact license (if you are a recent graduate of a nursing program in VA and not licensed, the NCLEX-PN exam must be scheduled at the time of application)
  • Working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques of practical or general nursing care
  • Demonstrated ability to screen complaints of physical ailments and refer necessary cases to other medical professionals
  • Ability to maintain appropriate documentation, provide first aid, and carry out providers' orders in applying treatments
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to administer practical nursing care
  • Certified Basic Life Support (BLS) for health care providers with current certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) is required upon hire
Additional Considerations
  • Experience working in a Corrections or Law enforcement environment
  • Experience or related training in delivery of general nursing and emergency medical care
