Health Sciences High and Middle College (HSHMC) is a Charter High School in City Heights, San Diego, CA serving grades 9-12.
School Nurse
Job Purpose:
To provide students with professional nursing care to support their health and well-being. The School Nurse will support the school culture including promoting wellness and the prevention of illness.
Education-Based Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; and
Registered Nurse License; and
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a School Nurse; and
CPR Certification
Knowledge, Skills, Ability: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The School Nurse must have the ability to
establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with students, families, administrators, general educators, educational specialists, and support staff.

implement relevant technology within the job functions.
meet professional requirements of school/district and state.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct assessments.
• Interpreting health assessments to parents, teachers, and administrators.
• Plans and provides nursing care for students.
• Develop and maintain a regular caseload of students to support.
• Effectively provide support to students in 1 on 1 or small group settings.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Promote effective relationships amongst students and between students and teachers.

• Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to support student health
• Monitor students' health progress and provide appropriate feedback.
• Collaborate with administrators, general educators, educational specialists, and support staff.
• Communicate with families and parents to discuss academic progress when there are concerns and celebrations.
• Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, HSHMC policies and school regulations.
• Attend restorative conferences as needed.
Other functions of the job include but are not limited to the following
• Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds
• Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
• Participate in appropriate professional learning activities.
• Participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
• Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions (Physical Requirements and Environment):
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer, hand-held learning devices and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and must occasionally lift and/or move items.
