Position Summary
Under the limited supervision of the Veterans Home Therapist Supervisor this position provides
transportation for the Activities program at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King (WVHK) and provides transportation for Members' medical appointments when needed. Major responsibilities include safely transporting Members for activity-related outings and special events; reporting and submitting work orders to mechanic for the maintenance of assigned fleet vehicles; and providing support and assistance for Members on outings. The incumbent operates passenger buses and vans and must comply with state and federal regulations governing transportation of persons with disabilities. Job duties require assisting with normal or accommodated functioning for elderly, disabled, ill and/or injured Members with memory, cognitive or psychiatric impairments.

Salary Information
The pay for this position is $18.42 per hour with additional compensation for nights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
This job does not offer employee benefits.
The position is in pay schedule-pay range 06-10.
This position is not represented by a bargaining unit.
Job Details
This is a flexible part-time position with fluctuating hours. Candidate will work approximately 20 hours per week with additional hours as needed to facilitate member transfer to medical appointments, and various off-campus trips with an occasional special trip(s) on weekends. The position requires availability to work a flexible schedule.
LTE jobs are limited to 1039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.
Job duties require the ability to stand/walk up to 90% of an 8-hour day to provide member assistance; frequently reach above shoulders to remove or replace items; navigate narrow aisles; and assist patients weighing up to 350 pounds with their mobility needs.
Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment tuberculosis (TB) skin test.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
Employees at this healthcare facility are required to report their COVID-19 vaccination status, whether vaccinated or not, and provide supporting documentation if vaccinated. Newly hired employees will be required to submit this information by their third day of employment.
Qualifications
This position requires that the incumbent hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B or higher, with Passenger endorsement and no restriction on air brakes.
In addition, the incumbent must meet the following requirements from the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle policy.
- Minimum standards:
- Have a valid driver's license
- Have a minimum of two year's licensed driving experience
- Be 18 years of age of older
- Driving record that does not show:
- Three or more moving violations and/or at fault accidents in the past two years
- An Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) citation within the past 12 months
- A suspension or revocation of driver's license
Additional required and preferred qualifications that will be assessed at a later stage in the selection process are experience:
- Driving a motorized passenger vehicle; and
- Working independently; and
- Following safety requirements and procedures; and/or
- Assisting passengers with special needs; and/or
- With time management and adhering to schedules; and/or
- With inspection, recordkeeping and coordination of maintenance/repair for CDL and non-CDL vehicles
