A Mid-sized and growing education law firm with statewide practice representing school and community college districts seeks an associate to join its Students and Special Education Practice Group. Qualified candidates will have three years of experience, including the below qualifications: Qualified candidates will have 5-7 years of construction legal experience, including some or all of the following qualifications: Public procurement and contract negotiation experience, including bidding processes and alternative delivery method contracts, and knowledge of the legal framework applicable to public agency contracting. Ability to clearly and concisely prepare a broad range of bid packages and procurement documents, with meaningful experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of types of contracts, including construction contracts, special services agreements, contracts for equipment, materials, and supplies, and agreements for professional services, such as design professionals and construction management services. Knowledge of bid protests, requests for substitution, stop payment notice claims, change orders, delay and cost overrun claims, payment bond issues, contract termination, and payment disputes. Flexibility, initiative, and willingness to work on a broad variety of legal matters arising in representing public entities, and also possessing a strong aptitude for learning. Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks, with strong attention to detail and accuracy. Demonstrated success working as a team player in a fast-paced environment, as well as the ability to work independently. Excellent writing, research, analytical, and communication skills. Admitted to the California State Bar. Public agency experience is desired, but not required; prior school or community college district representation is preferred. Subject matter knowledge across several of the following areas is a plus, but is not required: construction litigation experience; technology procurement and contracting; real property transactions, including property development, sales, purchases and leases, and eminent domain; energy service contracts; CMAS contracts; piggybacking; DTSC processes; and CEQA compliance.
