PTS Advance has an immediate need for a Refinery Chemist to fill a 4 month contract at our refinery client in Martinez, Ca. This position is set to start early December through the end of March 2025. Must have 5 years of laboratory experience in a refinery , petro-chemical, related heavy industry or other related 3rd party labs. Local Candidates only.
Pay rate: $35 - $40 hr.
4 month contract
Hours: 8 hours, Monday through Friday, 7am to 4:00pm
Possible overtime and/or oncall/offhour/weekend support
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow and enforce all safety rules and guidelines as established by the company. Ensure overall safe operation of the laboratory, which includes the laboratory safety and chemical hygiene program.
- Oversee comprehensive chemical analysis of water, petroleum and other compounds to identify elements or determine quantities contained utilizing standard test methods and procedures.
- Administer recommended repairs/calibration on a variety of analytical equipment and maintains the associated calibration logs and data files for the Laboratory QA/QC programs.
- Collaborate with lab team to adapt and validate laboratory methods consistent with ASTM standards.
- Monitor and investigate Statistical Quality Control data to ensure quality and regulatory compliance.
- Interface and coordinate with Refinery IT, Maintenance, Operations, and Warehouse Departments as needed.
- Interface with analytical equipment vendors.
- Participate in the Laboratory Training Program, including directly training Lab Techs as needed.
- Help coordinate building maintenance activities, material ordering, instrument storage, and other general lab needs.

Needed skills:
- 5 years of laboratory experience in a refinery, petro-chemical, related heavy industry or other related 3rd party labs.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
- Must have a clean and valid driver's license (no TWIC needed)
Preferred skills:
- LIMS and other lab software knowledge is preferred.
- Experience in GCs, petroleum refinery and environmental methods and ICP metals is preferred.
- Experience with Statistical Quality Control (SQC) is preferred.
- Experience as a Chemist is preferred.
- Experience with Renewables is preferred.
