Description Responsible for performing Ultrasound procedures and x-ray exams to assist in the diagnosis of disease
JOB DESCRIPTION: - Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.
- Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
- Performs patient care tasks as needed.
- Requests charts and film folder from the on-line computer program.
- Performs ultrasounds procedures as prescribed by a physician including: Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded on film; obtains essential information from patient, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation; instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; helps patients transfer to sono exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan; obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the scan head; develops the film; submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation.
- Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Takes x-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.
- Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding material.
- Prepares contract media and barium.
- Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
- Logs radiologic procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
- Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies.
- Develops and process radiologic film. Delivers, picks up and returns film.
- Maintains strictest confidentiality.
- Attendance and the ability to get to work and follow attendance policy is an essential element of this job

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION: - High school diploma; graduation from an accredited Radiography school.
- RDMS registered or registry eligible
- Graduate of accredited x-ray technologist program.
- Current BLS required
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES: - Minimum one or more years' experience and/or training with graduate sonographer
- Minimum one year Ultrasound experience
- Knowledge of x-ray procedures and protocols
- Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform x-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement
- Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology
- Skill in injecting contrast intravenously for imaging procedures
- Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information
- Skill in positioning patients properly
- Skill in identifying equipment problems and corrects or notifies supervisor
- Ability to work in a cooperative nature within and outside department with staff, patients, and families
- Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients
