Responsible for performing Ultrasound procedures and x-ray exams to assist in the diagnosis of disease
JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. Assists in performing life-saving techniques (CPR, first aid) to the patient if necessary.
2. Practices sterile techniques and prevents cross contamination. Handles blood and body fluids and deals with infectious patients.
3. Performs patient care tasks as needed.
4. Requests charts and film folder from the on-line computer program.
5. Performs ultrasounds procedures as prescribed by a physician including: Positions patients for the proper view of the affected area; selects the appropriate scan images to be recorded on film; obtains essential information from patient, medical records and previous scans for clinical correlation; instructs patients about the proper physiological requirements for the procedure; helps patients transfer to sono exam table and ensures adequate patient immobilization to perform the scan; knows how to change scanning parameters to improve a scan; obtains diagnostic sonographic images by scanning the appropriate body part of the patient with the scan head; develops the film; submits diagnostic ultrasound exam to physician for interpretation.
6. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Takes x-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety.
7. Uses a variety of radiation protection and shielding material.
8. Prepares contract media and barium.
9. Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.
10. Logs radiologic procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed.
11. Maintains examination rooms. Stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies.
12. Develops and process radiologic film. Delivers, picks up and returns film.
13. Maintains strictest confidentiality.
14. Attendance and the ability to get to work and follow attendance policy is an essential element of this job

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:

1. High school diploma; graduation from an accredited Radiography school.
2. RDMS registered or registry eligible
3. Graduate of accredited x-ray technologist program.
4. Current BLS required

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:

1. Minimum one or more years' experience and/or training with graduate sonographer
2. Minimum one year Ultrasound experience
3. Knowledge of x-ray procedures and protocols
4. Knowledge of anatomy and physiology necessary to perform x-ray testing including body mechanics and patient movement
5. Knowledge of radiology equipment including safety hazards common to radiology
6. Skill in injecting contrast intravenously for imaging procedures
7. Skill in using computer network system competently to process patient and department information
8. Skill in positioning patients properly
9. Skill in identifying equipment problems and corrects or notifies supervisor
10. Ability to work in a cooperative nature within and outside department with staff, patients, and families
11. Ability to explain procedures clearly and simply to patients
