DNV - Digital Solutions is seeking a Head of Software Engineering to join our Software Engineering unit. DNV - Digital Solutions develops world class software for asset and risk management of industrial assets supporting a safe and secure energy transition. DNV - Digital Solutions consists of 5 different Product Lines - each with a dedicated Software Engineering unit supported by a Centre of Enablement.

The Electric Grid Software Engineering unit develops, maintains and operates a suite of field and office transmission and distribution asset management and power system planning products. Our products provide customers with solutions to ensure reliable and safe energy delivery to their communities and are deployed as both on-premise and cloud operated saas solutions
The role of electricity as an energy carrier is set to double globally by 2050 and will be marked by changes on both the production and demand side. Distribution and transmission grids will play a crucial role in enabling this transition - and our products contribute to futureproofing the power grids of the world.

As Head of Software Engineering, you are responsible for the Electric Grid technology strategy and ways of working and will lead the unit in delivering on the product roadmap and strategy.

Your responsibilities include recruitment, competence development, innovation, and inspiring the team to continuously improve their ways of working. Setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and creating an inclusive environment where team members feel valued and empowered to do their best are expected.

Your leadership will be pivotal in ensuring high-quality software delivery, transparency and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. You will work within the Electric Grid Product Line to ensure that the delivery of solutions meet the highest standards of performance, security, and scalability.

Your ability to navigate complex technical challenges, will be essential in steering the unit towards achieving our ambitious goals. Additionally, you will work together with the Software Engineering Leadership team and partners to ensure that our software engineering practices are consistent and aligned with industry best practices.

This position is based in our Corvallis, Oregon office. Other DNV locations in the US can be considered. You will report to the Director of Software Engineering and will be a member of the Software Engineering Leadership Team.

You have experience in Software Engineering, technology and line management. You proactively identify opportunities, and you are an enabler for flow and a real team player who will act as a force multiplier for the Digital Solutions organization.
You have experience in dealing with technical debt, cybersecurity, architecture, developer productivity and modernization. You are passionate about the discipline of developing software solutions, continuous improvement and working with customers to help them be successful.

What you'll do
• Contribute to Electric Grid Product line strategy
• Drive design, development, and continuous delivery of software according to product roadmaps and business cases
• Responsible for implementing, sharing and using development/flow/delivery metrics
• Drive adoption of continuous delivery, customer centricity and other practices that ensure the timely delivery of value to our customers
• Define and execute on technology strategy for the Cascade and Synergi Electric products
• Manage the staff in the day-to-day performance of their job and perform all relevant finance and HR processes according to deadlines set
• Collaboration with other Software Engineering units, Product Lines, and Centre of Enablement
• Foster a 'learn it all' culture with continuous competence development
• Ensure focus on security and quality in all parts of the operation
• Work on initiatives across the various Software Engineering units and proactively share progress and ideas for improvement

Qualifications

What is Required
• Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering or Electric Engineering
• Excellent leadership skills and ability to inspire people to follow a shared vision
• Extensive experience in leading software teams and resource management
• Good software development knowledge & experience with agile methodologies
• Experience with enterprise software solutions
• Customer-centric and good at building and maintaining customer relationships
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Able to maintain good relationships across units, domains, and geographies
• Relevant domain or industry knowledge is preferable
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills
