Controller role is located at the Associated Packaging, Inc. headquarters in Gallatin, TN (Nashville, TN). The primary function of the Controller is to manage all accounts payable, cash applications, treasury management, fixed assets, general ledger, and financial statement reporting functions and activities ensuring accurate and timely issuance of financial statements. This role has the potential to expand scope after gaining a thorough understanding of existing accounting processes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Hire, lead, and retain accounting staff as follows:
- Accounting Manager
- Senior Accountant
- Staff Accountant
- Accounts Payable Coordinators
- Cash Application Specialist
- Plan, direct, coordinate all accounting operational functions initially including Accounts Payable, Cash Applications, Treasury Management, Fixed Assets, General Ledger and Financial Statement Reporting; responsibilities to expand as knowledge and understanding of existing processes is gained
- Lead and manage all tax compliance including federal income tax, multi-state and local income tax, multistate (US & CA) sales and use tax processes, filing compliance requirements, and establish and maintain tax firm partner relationships
- Manage all treasury management functions, banking processes and procedures, and financial institution client relationships
- Develop and maintain financial and accounting policies, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements that are compliant with GAAP
- Manage monthly and annual year-end close to include journal entry preparation, general ledger review and maintenance, account reconciliation and variance analysis
- Manage the process to develop, maintain, generate, and review monthly corporate financial reporting including P&L statements, balance sheet, cash flow statement, etc.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for proper internal controls and business practices
- Respond to inquiries from executives and senior managers with financial results, special reporting requests and related projects.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate the annual review process with external auditors, establish and maintain good relationship with audit partners
- Assist in conversion of ERP system to NetSuite to include managing creation of accounting processes and process documentation, financial planning and analysis, forecasting, etc.
What you bring to the table:- Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or another related field
- 7+ years of experience in Controller role and/or of increased responsibilities.
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
- Experience with NetSuite ERP a big plus.
- Strong Microsoft Office skills and extensive experience with Excel (including pivot tables, VLOOKUP's, and macros a plus), Outlook, Word, Teams, etc. a plus
- Highly motivated self-starter, able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure and changing priorities.
- Open to leadership and professional development required.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate, both verbally and in writing, across different levels of the organization.
- Solid understanding of general accounting concepts.
- Strong analytical skills and an innate ability to solve problems.
- Desire to improve processes and create efficiencies in all areas of the accounting department.
