Job Description

Position Overview : We are seeking a dedicated Workers' Compensation Claims Handler at our Plant, focusing on excellent customer service, quality claims handling, and cost management.


Key Responsibilities :

  • Analyze and process complex or technically challenging workers' compensation claims.
  • Manage a full caseload, handling cases of increased severity with expertise.
  • Oversee Workers’ Compensation Lost Time claim handling.
  • Develop and execute action plans to ensure timely and cost-effective claim resolutions.
  • Calculate and assign appropriate reserves, manage reserve adequacy throughout the claim's lifecycle.
  • Calculate and pay benefits due; approve and make timely claim payments and adjustments; settle claims within designated authority levels.
  • Prepare and submit necessary state filings within statutory limits.
  • Coordinate vendor referrals for further investigation or litigation management.
  • Utilize cost containment techniques and strategic vendor partnerships to reduce overall claim costs.
  • Manage claim recoveries, including subrogation, Second Injury Fund excess recoveries, and Social Security and Medicare offsets.
  • Report claims to the excess carrier.
  • Maintain clear communication with claimants and clients regarding claim activity and processing.
  • Ensure proper documentation and accurate claim coding.
  • Refer cases to supervisors or management as needed.


Skills Required :

  • Strong analytical and investigative abilities for complex claims.
  • Proven capability to handle a full caseload effectively.
  • Experience in Workers’ Compensation Lost Time claim handling.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong analytical, interpretive, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.


Experience Required :

  • 3-5 years of Illinois Workers' Compensation claims management experience.


Education Required :

  • College degree and 3-5 years of related claims management experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma and 3-5 years of related Illinois claims experience also accepted.


Additional Information : The successful candidate will start fully onsite, with the potential for a hybrid schedule once fully trained.
