ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Greets patients and provides comfort and reassurance to the patient.
  • Introduces self to patient and verbally validates the procedure.
  • Supports the patient's right to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
  • Utilizes the nursing process to develop, plan, deliver, and execute patient's plan of care during postoperative period.
  • Assists the patient, if necessary, with dressing
  • Performs safe and individualized nursing care for the patient in the immediate post-operative/post-anesthesia period.
  • Assesses and legibly documents the patients' physical and emotional status upon arrival in the recovery room.
  • Develops a plan of care for the patient based on patient needs related to surgical condition and type of anesthesia.
  • Monitors and reports any abnormal observed complications to the RN, Anesthesia provider, and physician, as appropriate.
  • Assesses the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge.
  • Reviews postoperative instructions and prescriptions from the physician with patient and caregiver and legibly documents in patient's medical record.
  • Uses equipment effectively following manufacturer's instructions for use.
  • Uses proper techniques and procedures according to accepted standards of practice.
  • Assists with inventory of supplies, drugs, and equipment to maintain availability and stock levels.
  • Maintains order and cleanliness of PACU area.
  • Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • Attends all required education.
