Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals withnndisabilities to perform the essential job functions herein described.nnRelief B Truck DrivernnDepartment Solid Waste AdministrationnnPay Grade 10nnFLSA StatusnnSafety SensitivennNon-ExemptnnYesnnJOB SUMMARYnnPerforms skilled equipment operator and truck driving tasks, as well as skilled work involving thennrecovery of refrigerant from household appliances.nnESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSnnDrives and/or loads a variety of refuse collection trucks along a variety of fixed collectionnnroutes;nnEnsures that trucks are properly loaded and secured.nnObserves all state and federal highway laws for safe operation of vehicle.nnPerforms operator maintenance on the vehicle (including washing, cleaning, check tirennpressure, etc.).nnInspects vehicle before, during, and after operation to detect improper operation and/or anynnnon-compliance with DOT rules and regulations.nnInstructs and supervises assigned helper relative to operation of the truck, collection body,nnand safety.nnInspects condition and serviceability of refuse containers on the route, if applicable, andnnreports unsatisfactory conditions to supervisor.nnCoordinates all activities associated with the prescribed legal methods of recoveringnnrefrigerants regulated by federal law, including the collection and loading of any unitsnncontaining regulated refrigerant, transporting the units to a facility where recoverynnequipment is located, also tags and observes that evacuated units are recycled or otherwisenndisposed of properly;nnMaintains accurate records of all activities;nnPerforms any other related duties as required or assigned.nnRelief B Truck Driver Page 2 of 3nnCity of Hot Springs, Arkansas Prepared: June 2024nnSupervision Received:nnWorks under general supervision of an administrative superior.nnSupervision Exercised:nnMay exercise close to general supervision over assigned helper.nnQUALIFICATIONSnnEducation and Experience:nnHigh school diploma or equivalent; and one (1) year operating comparable class trucks and innnmaking minor repairs and adjustments on comparable equipment; or any equivalentnncombination of education and experience.nnLicenses or Certifications:nnMust possess a valid Commercial Drivers License Class B and a clean driving record; must benncertified as a refrigeration technician or be able to obtain certification within six months of hire.nnKnowledge, Skills and Abilities:nnConsiderable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relating to thennequipment and the solid waste industry.nnSkill in operating large trucks with either manual or automatic transmissions.nnSkill in detecting vehicle and equipment faults.nnSkill in making correct judgments as to whether operation can continue without correctingnnthe fault.nnAbility to estimate weight of load to ensure truck is not overloaded or grossly under loaded.nnAbility to make operator adjustments to equipment (e.g., adjust belts, tighten hoses and nuts,nnreplace light bulbs and lenses, check tire pressure and replace minor parts).nnAbility to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.nnAbility to train employees performing related work.nnAbility to complete forms and make simple reports accurately.nnAbility to establish and maintain effective working relationships.nnAbility to perform strenuous labor tasks under all types of weather conditions.nnPHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDSnnFrequently stands, walks, talks, and hears; occasionally sits; usesnnhands to handle objects; reachesnnwith hands and arms; stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs, or balances; may use sense ofnntaste or smell; specific vision requirements include close, color, distance, peripheral, and thennability to adjust focus; occasionally required to lift up to 70 pounds.nnRelief B Truck Driver Page 3 of 3nnCity of Hot Springs, Arkansas Prepared: June 2024nnWORK ENVIRONMENTnnThe noise level in the work environment is usually very loud; exposed to outdoor weathernnconditions, fumes or airborne
