Position Summary: Substation Technician- A is a non-exempt position in the construction, maintenance and repair of substation equipment / systems. Substation Technician- A has a 6-8 year continuous working knowledge of 525 kv and below substation equipment, apparatus, and wiring. This position requires work in confined spaces and in elevated work areas, and works with various pieces of construction equipment specific to the trade. A Substation Technician A may work independently or with others, occasionally work long hours during emergency conditions. This position should be able to lead/coach subordinates on the crew. This position works at various locations. The position may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.nnEssential Functions:nnWorks safely while performing new construction, maintenance or repair, testing, adjusting and troubleshooting work of substation equipment/systems which includes, but is not limited to, work involving the following:nConcrete Foundations, ground grids, and steel erectionnBuswork (High and Low Voltage)nAirbreak / Hookstick SwitchesnControl CablenTerminations (High / Low Voltage)nControl BuildingsnConduit and duck banksnCapacitor bank installations 23kv- 230 kvnTransformers, regulators and circuit breakersnCircuit Switchers, motor-operated and manual switchesnResponsible for maintaining Company vehicles, test equipment and tools in good working conditionsnFrequently works with energized high voltage systems requiring skill and care to protect the lives of themselves and others.nnMinimum Responsibilities:nnAble to perform rigorous physical labor.nMust be capable of climbing and working at heights up to 125 feet above ground.nMust possess a Commercial Drivers License.nMust supply own personal hand tools required by the company for this work.nMust supply own safety toed work boots.nMust be capable of lifting in excess of 50 lbs.nMust be capable of working in confined spaces/areas.nMust be able to work independently or with others.nOperational experience of various types of heavy equipment :nBucket, derrick and boom trucksnBackhoes, excavators and skid steer loadersnArticulating Man-liftsnPressure DiggersnTrenchersnTrack Crawler Loader/BackhoenRough Terrain Telescopic ForkliftsnWilling to work over-time or long hours during emergency conditions and/or when requested. Schedules can change frequently and with short notice.n90% Travel RequirednCapable of following Company safety rules and policies.nMust have extensive knowledge of construction standard practices, techniques, quality requirements, applicable codes and standards.nMust be capable of working in close proximity of energized substation equipment.nMust interpret substation structural drawings (i.e. elevations, plan views, section views, grounding details, and foundation plans) and communicate with customers and subordinates.nAbility to accurately appraise technical situations and recommend resolutions to problems.nAbility to lead/coach subordinates on the crew.nAbility to develop and interpret a material list.nAbility to trace out phasing in a substation and verify to the three line diagrams.nProficient knowledge in all aspects of substation systems.nAbility to determine the proper phase shift and rotation in paralleling transformer banks.nCapable of running the job during the absence of the ForemannAbility to establish grade, elevations, and layout of foundations and cable trough in new and existing stations.nnPhysical Demands:nnThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.nnWhile performing the duties of this j b, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
