Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
• Technical experience in public-owned and commercial leased wireless and wireline technology deployments for traffic devices by state transportation agencies or major metropolitan regional organizations.
• Knowledge of communication systems requirements of IP-based and non-IP-based traffic devices as part of statewide or regional traffic data collection systems, traffic signal systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
• Preparation of communication master plans and strategic implementation plans of communication networks and systems for transportation data systems and devices.
• Participation in stakeholder outreach efforts for communication requirements. Use case development of traffic devices as part of statewide or regional traffic data collection systems, traffic signal systems, and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Experience Required
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in traffic technology planning, network planning, engineering design and consulting services to public or private industry.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in STEM fields preferred.
• Professional or technical certification in computer or communication networks or communication systems and technologies.
Roles & Responsibilities
• Knowledge of the architecture required to administer, implement, and operate a high quality, high performance, and high availability statewide communication network infrastructure to monitor and manage all traffic devices and associated communication and monitoring systems.
• Working knowledge of traffic devices including Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Portable Variable Message Signs (PVMS), Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), radar and loop detectors, traffic counting equipment, wireless traffic sensors, Road Weather Information System (RWIS) devices, traffic signal systems and associated detection systems, flashers/hybrid beacons.
• Develop the technology strategy and roadmaps of the traffic network to include device type in consideration of geographical and environmental diversity, budget allocations, and technology standards.
• Develop network architecture and deploy communication networks for the monitoring, expansion, and service evolution of a statewide traffic system.

Generic Managerial Skills
The Network Architect will be a part of a dynamic team of experienced IT professionals with varied experiences. The resource will be responsible for consulting project activities where day-to-day duties will range from assisting in Networking Architecture pre-sales activities, responding to RFPs, through to high-level and detailed designs to actual implementation on large projects. They will act as an expert within their discipline, while working independently or working in a team as assigned by the program leader. Key responsibilities will include project scoping, design, deployment and support of leading vendor networking solutions in all aspects. The resource must be passionate, persuasive, articulate, possess IT networking technical professional capabilities of quickly establishing interest and credibility in how to design, deploy and operate IP based technologies within the fixed and virtualized networks of the future. Additionally, they should have a detailed understanding of principles, theories and concepts in applicable discipline, plus working knowledge of other related fields. Work performed will be under general direction and a contribution to the strategic plan.
Salary Range: $100,000-$137,000 a year
