Shift: Full Time (36 hours weekly)

12-hour shifts-6:30am – 7:30pm

Location: Travel between three (3) to seven (7) Emory locations within Emory Healthcare
n
Salary:Based on four different travel levels starting at $40 + shift differentials

We are seeking a capable Surgical Tech whoAssists surgeons and nurses with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique, and surgical procedures in the operating room.
nn
n - Prepares the operating room for surgery by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments, and equipment; obtains special supplies indicated by physician.
n - Set up and operate a variety of specialized instrumentation, manual and powered equipment. Follows procedures for pre- and post-operative accounting of sharps, sponges and instruments used in the surgical set up.
n - Accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment. Maintains inventory of sterile surgical supplies to ensure immediate availability.
n - Operates sterilization equipment for the proper sterilization of surgical instruments. Follows established sterilization policy and procedures.
n - Assists in evaluating various products, supplies and equipment pertinent to the operating room. Assists in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for surgery and provides for the physical comfort, safety and privacy during the intra-operative patient.
n - Observes patient for symptoms which may indicate a change in condition; reports significant observations to the appropriate member of the medical team for immediate attention.
n - Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control; practices appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment.
n - Appropriately cleans surgical instruments and equipment. Prepares tissue and other specimens for laboratory analyses.
n - Serves as a preceptor and resource to colleagues (such as lesser experienced surgical technologists) and strong advocate for patients/families.
n - Works with leader to formulate plan for professional development.
n - Attends education in-services as appropriate.
n - Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
n - Following established charting procedures, documents all aspects of patient care to show progress or changes in patient’s condition.
n - Collaborates with members of the health care team to determine patient needs in planning treatment. Attends scheduled staff meetings.
n - Demonstrates competency in all new equipment and procedures. Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements
n
n
n - A high school diploma or equivalent.
n - Successful completion of an accredited surgical technician training program
n - 2.5 years of recent and relevant experience as a surgical technologist.
n - Professional certification is required within one year of employment.
n - Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification in accordance with the American Heart Association is required.
