Job Description
Harlem Hospital Center has been a bedrock of the Harlem community since 1887. Duties & Responsibilities
Under general supervision, provides day-to-day supervision for an operating segment within nuclear medicine. Follows established radiology protocols and standards to ensure a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff, maximize imaging quality and deliver efficient and effective nuclear medicine services. Complies with all applicable NYC Health + Hospitals, health care setting, federal, state, and local regulations governing the practice of Nuclear Medicine.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates and supervises the work of nuclear medicine technologists and ancillary personnel assigned to the sector; plans, schedules and organizes their work, ensuring proper distribution and delegation of assignments and efficient utilization of personnel.
2. Communicates with other technologists, radiology residents, and attending staff regarding techniques and image quality.
3. Reviews methods and existing nuclear medicine policies and procedures and makes recommendations for improvement, as appropriate.
4. Recommends changes and improvements relating to the delivery of nuclear medicine services.
5. Participates in the development of training programs for nuclear medicine personnel, ancillary personnel and allied health care professionals, and instructs on technical aspects of their routine use. Demonstrates new or revised techniques, procedures and equipment.
6. Reviews exam orders, ensures all exams are accessioned, documented in Radiology Information System (RIS) and all images are sent to Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) Ensures exams are performed in a timely manner following all applicable protocols.
7. Accurately maintains all required records, prepares reports and performs related work, as required.
8. Monitors the effectiveness of the sector's technical activities to ensure effective and efficient delivery of high-quality diagnostic and therapeutic services.
9. Collaborates with physicians and other appropriate staff to advance nuclear medicine programs and initiatives.
10. Recommends and implements corrective actions in order to improve treatment delivery standards and ensures all department activities comply with regulatory agency requirements.
11. Participates in departmental meetings, internal/external quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities, including coordination, control and maintenance of technical equipment, and training, as required.
12. May prepare programs for computer applications required.
13. May perform nuclear medicine procedures, as required.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Valid license and current registration to practice as a Radiologic Technologist, specializing in Nuclear Medicine issued by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH); and
2. Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) issued by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT); and
3. Two (2) years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist; and
4. Completion of the NYC Health + Hospitals Supervisory training within three (3) months of appointment.
