Description Position eligible for up to $15,000 sign-on bonus! MAIN FUNCTION: Performs all Nuclear Medicine diagnostic and therapeutic procedures at Arnot Health and at Arnot Health physician offices as required. Reports to the Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ** 1. Performs all diagnostic Nuclear Medicine/Nuclear Cardiology diagnostic procedures. This includes:
- Quality control of all equipment.
- Reviewing physician orders for accuracy/appropriateness.
- Preparing the patient.
- Preparation and injection of radiopharmaceuticals.
- I.V. catheter insertion as required.
- Patient positioning.
- Image acquisition and processing.
- Interaction with various computer systems including but not limited to: camera systems, medical information system, PACS and nuclear medicine management system.
- Troubleshooting unexpected clinical or technical situations.
** 2. Prepares appropriate dosage of radiopharmaceuticals in preparation for diagnostic procedures. This includes:
- Scheduling patients
- Ordering unit doses from the Radiopharmacy
- Preparation of radiopharmaceutical kits
- Calculation of dosage
- Scheduling patients
- Management of bulk Tc99m
- Sterile techniques, quality control
** 3. Performs various management tasks associated with ordering, receiving, distributing and storage of radioactive materials and radioactive waste in accordance with departmental, Arnot Health and New YorkState regulations.
** 4. Performs all therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures. This includes:
- Working closely with referring offices to ensure proper patient work-up.
- Ensuring all required pre-testing and paperwork is available.
- Coordinating patient's needs with Radiologist and department/Arnot Health schedule as required.
- Follow all radiation safety precautions and regulations.
** 5. Performs mobile Nuclear Cardiology exams at various Arnot Health physician offices.
- Driving a large van to different locations in the twin tiers of New York and Pennsylvania in changing weather conditions.
- Moving and loading a mobile gamma camera in and out of the van; then setting up for diagnostic exams in physician offices.
- Working independently with a nurse, physician and patient.
6. Provides age appropriate care to neonate, infant, and children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
** 7. Duties include tasks not specifically listed, but required for Arnot Health accreditation, Department or Arnot Health policy or by New YorkState regulations; as requested by the Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine.
8. Is responsible for attending all annual or other educational programs as required by the Arnot Health.
9. Must maintain continuing education credits in order to be compliant with Arnot Health accreditation, professional certification and New YorkState licensure.
10. REQUIREMENTS: Current certification or eligible for certification in Nuclear Medicine by NMTCB or ARRT. Formal 2 or 4 year degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology is preferred. Must be eligible for New York State licensure in Nuclear Medicine. Requires a valid driver's license and insurability by the Arnot Health.
EXPERIENCE: One year preferred but will consider new graduates.
CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS: Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Some physical effort required, able to exert up to 100 lbs of force to move objects. Work requires some bending, reaching, lifting; moving patients.
EXPOSURE CATEGORY: Category I. Tasks that involve exposure to blood and body fluid or tissue.
