Director of Equipment


Scott Humphrey has partnered with a client looking for an experienced and results-driven Director of Equipment to oversee and manage all aspects of equipment operations within their construction organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the construction industry, exceptional leadership skills, and a strategic approach to optimizing equipment utilization, maintenance, and cost efficiency.


Responsibilities


  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for equipment acquisition, maintenance, and replacement to support operational goals.
  • Oversee the organization’s fleet of equipment, ensuring optimal performance and utilization.
  • Manage equipment procurement processes, including vendor selection, contract negotiation, and cost control.
  • Develop and monitor the equipment budget, ensuring alignment with company financial objectives.
  • Establish and enforce maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Monitor repair processes to ensure timely resolution and compliance with safety standards.
  • Ensure all equipment meets regulatory and safety compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with safety teams to conduct regular inspections and risk assessments.
  • Lead and mentor the equipment management team, including operators, mechanics, and logistics personnel.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Utilize equipment management software to track utilization, maintenance schedules, and performance metrics.
  • Prepare detailed reports for leadership on equipment status, costs, and recommendations for improvement.


Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of experience in equipment management within the construction industry.
  • Proven track record of managing large fleets and improving operational efficiency.
  • Proficiency in equipment management software and tools.
  • Strong understanding of construction equipment, including operation, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
  • CEM (Certified Equipment Manager) or similar credential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership and communication abilities.
  • Knowledge of construction industry trends, equipment innovations, and best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
