We source the best of New York’s spirits and ingredients, spotlighting the richness of our local craft scene. We’re looking for a Bar Manager who shares our passion for creativity, leadership, and hospitality, while fostering a culture of excellence behind the bar.
The Role
As Bar Manager, you’ll help develop and oversee all aspects of Cleome’s bar operations, ensuring every cocktail, pour, and guest interaction reflects our upmost high standards. You’ll lead by example, crafting exceptional drinks while mentoring your team to elevate their skills and service. With a deep knowledge of spirits, wines, and beers, you’ll design and launch a beverage program that pairs perfectly with Cleome’s bold Southern flavors.
Key Responsibilities
• Beverage Program Leadership: Develop an innovative, seasonally-inspired cocktail menu, highlighting New York spirits, classic cocktails, and prohibition-era favorites.
• Team Development: Train, mentor, and lead bar staff, creating an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration, and professionalism.
• Service Excellence: Oversee bar and service bar operations during service, ensuring every drink meets Cleome’s standards for quality, timeliness, presentation, and consistency.
• Inventory and Ordering: Manage bar inventory, negotiate with suppliers, and ensure efficient purchasing of spirits, wines, beers, and bar supplies.
• Guest Experience: Foster an inviting and knowledgeable environment, engaging with guests to create memorable drinking experiences.
• Financial Oversight: Monitor beverage costs, manage labor expenses, and contribute to budget planning and profitability goals.
• Compliance and Safety: Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including responsible alcohol service.
What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking a leader who is as passionate about hospitality as they are about spirits. You’re not just behind the bar—you’re setting the tone for Cleome’s drinking culture, blending tradition with innovation, and lending an ear when necessary.
Must-Haves
• 4+ years of experience in a high-volume bar or restaurant setting, with at least 2 years in a management role.
• Strong knowledge of classic cocktails, prohibition-era favorites, in depth wine knowledge, as well as craft beer, and local New York spirits.
• Exceptional leadership skills with a passion for teaching and developing staff.
• Creativity and attention to detail in cocktail design and presentation.
• Strong organizational skills, including inventory management and cost control.
• Outstanding guest service skills, with the ability to create a welcoming, educational experience.
Nice-to-Haves
• Certification in mixology or sommelier training.
• Familiarity with Southern-inspired cocktail flavors or techniques.
• Experience working with locally-sourced or artisanal spirits.
• Understanding of food and beverage pairing.
