Job Description

Our client is located in Morgan City, LA and looking to add a Sr. Buyer (Machining and Fabrication) to their team on a Contract to Hire basis. This role offers a hybrid working schedule.


Responsibilities:

Procurement of Materials and Equipment:

  • Source, negotiate, and procure machined parts, fabricated structures, and welded assemblies from suppliers.
  • Identify suppliers capable of delivering high-quality parts within required timeframes and at competitive prices.
  • Ensure compliance with material specifications, quality standards, and delivery schedules.
  • Vendor Management and Negotiation:
  • Negotiate prices, terms, and delivery schedules to secure competitive advantages.
  • Maintain a database of approved suppliers and evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and price.


Inventory Management:

  • Work with planning team to monitor inventory levels to ensure adequate stock without over stocking, preventing production delays or excess costs.


Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure purchased materials meet quality standards and specifications required for welding, machining, and fabrication work.


Order Management and Tracking:

  • Manage purchase orders, including order creation, tracking, and follow-up with suppliers to ensure timely delivery.


Supplier Relationship Management:

  • Develop and manage long-term relationships with critical suppliers.
  • Cultivate a strong business relationship with proper level of management at suppliers.


Supplier Performance and Risk Management:

  • Continually monitor supplier performance; utilizing team resources to mitigate any issues and meet specified performance targets.


Requirements:

  • 5+ years in a purchasing or procurement role, or project management role ideally in a manufacturing, welding, or fabrication environment.
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures, materials, products, and the commodity market in an area of specialization.
  • Strong understanding of materials used in welding, machining, and fabrication (e.g., steel, aluminum, alloys, welding rods, cutting tools, etc.).
  • Familiarity with welding, machining, and fabrication processes.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management, vendor negotiations, and inventory management.
