The Regulatory Engineer will be responsible for all agency and regulatory-related items with US and Canadian regulatory requirements for dishwasher, range hood, gas cooktop, and potentially water heater products. This role involves researching, interpreting, and applying standards; managing certification processes; and supporting cross-functional teams to achieve compliance.
Responsibilities
1. Regulatory Compliance Management
- Interpret and apply US and Canadian regulatory standards (e.g., UL, CSA, DOE, EPA, CEC, AHAM, and Energy Star) for dishwashers, range hoods, gas cooktops, and water heaters.
- Monitor and assess changes in future regulatory requirements, ensuring timely updates to products and processes.
- Review product literature, packaging, rating labels, etc. for product compliance and ensuring product meets various agency requirements.
- Manage the overall product compliance aspect– including being the expert related to applicable UL & CSA safety standards and requirements.
- Participate in AHAM, UL, IEC, and similar, committees as an active, voting member representing the overall product strategy and product division alignment.
2. Certification and Testing
- On a smaller scale, will need to manage product certification processes, including preparation and submission of technical documentation.
- Liaise with third-party agencies (e.g., UL, CSA, Intertek) to secure product approvals and certifications.
- Oversee testing procedures and results to ensure compliance with safety, energy efficiency, and performance standards.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work with design, engineering, and marketing teams to integrate regulatory requirements into product development cycles.
- Assist other engineers with design-related issues & problem solving.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, Master’s degree preferred.
- Preferably being an existing/former AHAM, ASHRAE and AHRI member familiar with the products (Appliances Category or other durable goods), procedures, and standards – experience with working committees preferred.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of working experience in the related field.
- Dishwasher, Range Hood/Gas cooktop product experience is highly preferred, but not required.
- Occasional International Travel

- Strong knowledge of regulatory standards such as UL, CSA, DOE, and EPA requirements.
- Experience managing product certifications and working with third-party certification bodies.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex regulatory information effectively.
