Job Posting: Civil/Structural Field Engineer (Contract Position)
Position Overview:
We are seeking a Civil/Structural Field Engineer to support a high-profile government construction project located at the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is a one-year contract position with the possibility of extension. The role includes a competitive per diem, mobilization support, and paid trips home every 28 days.
This project is a significant initiative for modernizing enriched uranium operations, aiming to replace aging infrastructure with state-of-the-art facilities. The position requires flexibility, as work schedules may change and overtime may be needed to meet project demands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide field engineering support for ongoing construction activities.
- Assist in resolving construction issues through meetings, correspondence, and documentation such as Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and Construction Deficiency Reports (CDRs).
- Review and provide engineering dispositions based on deliverables like steel and concrete calculations, finite element analysis of structures, and specifications.
- Coordinate and review technical documents across various engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams.
- Monitor work schedules and manage assigned project activities.
- Participate in constructability reviews to ensure efficiency and effectiveness.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Required Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering from an accredited institution with 9+ years of progressive relevant experience, OR
- 15 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain site security clearance.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check, including employment and education verification.
- Proficiency in structural analysis software (e.g., GTSTRUDL, SAP 2000) and CADD applications (e.g., MicroStation, Tekla).
- Thorough knowledge of engineering standards such as AISC Steel Construction Manual, ACI 318, and ASCE 7.
- Experience with construction methods for concrete and steel structures, as well as engineering deliverables like drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant experience on Department of Energy (DOE) projects or similar large-scale initiatives.
