Embedded Systems Engineer – Marine & EV Applications


Location - Milwaukee, WI (not a remote opportunity, relocation assistance available)

Summary:


Are you a boating and electric vehicle enthusiast ready to push the boundaries of innovation in marine technology? As a Embedded Systems Engineer, you’ll be at the forefront of integrating advanced powertrain, vehicle electronics, and control systems to develop and optimize electric-powered marine solutions. This role is perfect for an engineer with a passion for EVs and marine applications, aiming to build cutting-edge technology in a collaborative, hands-on environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Support the development of powertrain systems, vehicle electronics, control software, and test criteria for next-generation electric and hybrid vessels.
  • Select and integrate automotive-grade controllers, sensors, actuators, and other electrical components into vehicle subsystems, ensuring quality and durability.
  • Design and test subsystem control software and simulation models, optimizing system performance and reliability.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in conducting DFMEAs, assigning ASIL ratings, and implementing safety requirements for controllers and software.
  • Collaborate with the purchasing team to evaluate suppliers, ensuring components meet quality standards.
  • Participate in lab and in-field vessel testing, assisting in the development and execution of test plans.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in automotive control systems development and testing.
  • Proficient in model-based software design using Simulink, with experience in systems modeling and simulation.
  • Solid understanding of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN) and diagnostic implementation.
  • Hands-on skills with electrical measurement tools (oscilloscopes, multimeters), soldering, harness building, and reading schematics.
  • Familiarity with version control tools like Git.


Bonus Skills:


  • Knowledge of vehicle harnessing and electrical architecture.
  • Understanding of SAE J1939 and NMEA 2000 protocols.
  • Proficiency in UDS (ISO 14229-1) communication protocol and electric vehicle high-voltage safety systems.
  • Programming experience in C, C++, and Python.
