Job Description

Cardinal Engineering is currently seeking an experienced Metallurgist to enhance metallurgical processes in foundry operations, focusing on large-scale castings used on US Navy ships and submarines. The ideal candidate will bring extensive knowledge of metallurgical principles, materials science, and hands-on expertise in foundry environments to drive innovation and ensure product quality. 


Candidates will be based out of the Washington Navy Yard with part-time telework.?Some travel will be required in execution of assigned duties.?Must be a US Citizen and currently possess a DoD SECRET security clearance.? 


Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop, optimize, and troubleshoot metallurgical processes used to produce large-scale castings. 
  • Conduct root cause analyses for casting defects and implement corrective actions. 
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to meet customer specifications and improve efficiency. 
  • Lead material testing and validation, including mechanical, microstructural, and chemical analyses. 
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and methodologies to enhance casting quality and reduce costs. 
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ASME, ISO) and safety regulations. 


Qualifications 

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field. 
  • Experience:   3–10 years in metallurgical roles, with significant experience in foundry operations and large castings. 
  • Expertise in casting techniques 
  • Proficient in metallurgical analysis tools (e.g., SEM, spectrometry) and modeling software (e.g., MAGMASOFT, ProCAST). 
  • Strong problem-solving and project management skills. 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. 

 

Salary commensurate with years and applicability of experience ranging from $95 – $170K.
