Tooling Supervisor
Position Type: Direct Hire
Position Location: Commerce, CA
Position Salary: $70,000 - $85,000 (Depending on Experience) + Bonus
Responsibilities:
- Manage all activities related to maintenance, cleaning and preparation of tooling equipment.
- Supervises tooling personnel executing tasks related to tooling and maintaining tooling area.
- Manage tool repairs and tool maintenance with outside vendors.
- Manage spare parts related to tooling (seals, breaker plates, hardware, bearings, heaters).
- Manage schedule, performance, training and safety of tooling personnel.
- Assign cleaning and preparation tasks to tooling personnel based on production needs.
- Manage housekeeping, organization, equipment, and cleaning supplies within the tooling area.
- Manage tooling inventory – keep inventory status updated and shared with Maintenance, Production and Process departments.
- Organize and lead tooling meetings with Process and Process departments to discuss tooling related topics.
- Request quotes, track repairs, and manage vendor communication until full receipt of equipment.
- Keep track of costs and budget.
- Actively participate in quality investigations, lean deployment, kaizen events and other company programs where tooling department contribution is needed.
- Implement software or digital tools enabling easy access to records, technical information, reports, etc.
- Document processes related to tooling: work instructions, incoming testing, drawings, tooling specifications.
- Write and oversee tool cleaning procedures.
- Transition handwritten documentation methods towards digital methods.
- Search for new technologies, new vendors, new processes that could enhance tooling performance.
- Continuously develop internal technical expertise with extrusion tooling.
- Evaluate new practices and technical solutions for the tooling currently in use.
- Evaluate tooling performance in close connection with production and process personnel.
- Troubleshoot tooling failure and tooling performance.
Requirements:
- Associates degree in a technical background a minimum (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, etc.); Bachelors degree or higher education is a plus
- 3+ years’ experience in a tooling or maintenance background with 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or leadership role
- Strong work ethic and go getter mentality is highly desirable
- Must have good mechanical aptitude and ability to read mechanical drawings / schematics
- Strong communication skills both verbal and written are a must; Bilingual ability in Spanish is a plus
- Experience or knowledge in metallurgy field, tooling field, or maintenance field is a plus
- Proficient in excel and MS Office software is a must; Experience with a CMMS or QMS system is a plus
- Ability to use CAD software like SolidWorks would be a plus.
