About the Role


The Applications Manager is responsible for leading and managing the inside sales team and overseeing the quoting process to ensure accuracy and responsiveness. This role serves as the product expert on the sales team and will assist the team to ensure all opportunities are qualified properly and customer needs are fully understood. This role requires an excellent understanding of all aspects of costing including cylinder design, internal processes, outside services and other related items and will work closely with Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Engineering Teams.



Responsibilities


  • Work with customers to understand their unique needs and design solutions around constraints such as materials, cost, size, lead time, etc.
  • Conceptualize and communicate technical requirements through drawings and sketches.
  • Prepare cost estimates, quotes, proposals, and document packages.
  • Communicate with vendors to select material grades and gather pricing.
  • Project manage important or complex jobs.
  • Create Engineering Requests and work with customers to get drawing approval.
  • Conduct quotation and post-project reviews with the production team.
  • Communicate with customers to address warranties when necessary and explore opportunities for design improvement.
  • Act as a liaison between sales and engineering.
  • Participate in sales planning and provide pricing and margin recommendations.
  • Collaborate with Sales reps and provide technical expertise to convert opportunities to orders.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and recommend solutions.
  • Visit customers to build relationships, understand project requirements, and address issues when required.
  • Develop documentation packages including manuals and training materials.
  • Attend trade shows and industry events as required.
  • Stay updated on technologies to enhance products and services.



Leadership & Management Accountabilities


  • Lead, motivate and inspire personnel by creating and environment that promotes positive and open communication.
  • Provide leadership and support to staff through clear coaching and mentoring, conflict resolution, and effective mediation.
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide clear feedback & expectations, via conducting regular quarterly conversations and annual performance reviews.
  • Manage, lead and reward individual employee and team performance.
  • Provide clear and consistent direction to all direct reports.
  • Provide the necessary tools, resources, and training for staff to complete their job responsibilities.
  • Manage staffing needs and oversee schedules to provide effective support and resources.
  • Empower staff with the confidence, job knowledge and skills to execute their job responsibilities effectively.
  • Ensure that departmental initiatives, strategies, and decisions are aligned with the goals and objectives of the company.



Experience & Qualifications


  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Previous sales or technical experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Machining and fabrication process knowledge an asset.
  • Knowledge of fluid power and material grades and alloys an asset.
  • Project Management experience an asset.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects to meet firm deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong computer skills required. Software experience with CAD 3D Modeling, CRM, ERP, Microsoft Office, etc.
  • Communicates effectively in English, and comfortable and effective on the phone.
