The Mechanical Engineer - New Product Development will design new products and improve existing designs. Activities range from R&D, conceptual design, prototyping, sourcing, testing, manufacturing integration, and engineering change order execution.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and design new parts and complete systems related to the product
- Use Autodesk Inventor to design and layout part and assembly drawings and apply standard drafting practices
- Develop engineering standards and calculations to govern infinitely variable designs for implementation into ERP system
- Lead multidisciplinary team to follow Phase Gate process to take new products from idea to market release - ensure organization is ready to support and manufacture new products
- Work with Strategic Marketing to develop project scope and product specifications, from function to aesthetics.
- Implement new products into existing system via engineering change order process
- Develop installation instructions
- Maintain positive customer, vendor, and coworker relationships
- Be dedicated, self-initiating, and passionate about mechanical design, implementation and improvement
- Contribute to new product ideas
- Independently manage time and prioritize tasks
- Interact with manufacturing from design to production.
- Oversee and/or perform assembly and testing of engineering prototypes
- Validate designs for conformance to various structural and life safety codes and standards as required (ASCE, IBC, UL, etc.) through engineering evaluations and calculations
- Work with technician to develop prototypes
- Present and communicate designs/ideas clearly to associates ranging from shop associates to executives
