The Quality Systems Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) in compliance with regulatory, industry, and customer standards within the alcohol manufacturing environment. This role ensures that production processes consistently meet quality and safety requirements, supports regulatory compliance, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate will have expertise in alcohol production regulations, including federal and state requirements, and experience with quality assurance practices specific to the beverage alcohol industry.
Responsibilities:
Quality Systems Management
- Develop, implement, and manage the Quality Management System (QMS) tailored to alcohol manufacturing, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and regulations (e.g., HACCP, GMP, ISO, TTB, FDA).
- Oversee and manage document control processes, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records for procedures, testing, and compliance activities.
- Conduct regular internal audits to verify adherence to quality processes, food safety plans, and regulatory requirements.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with alcohol-specific regulatory requirements, including TTB, FDA, and local state regulations for manufacturing, labeling, and distribution.
- Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections, certifications, and audits for select Contract Manufacturing sites
Continuous Improvement
- Identify areas for improvement within production and quality processes to enhance product consistency and efficiency.
- Analyze quality metrics and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to address non-conformances.
- Collaborate with production, R&D, and supply chain teams to optimize processes and improve product quality.
Quality Control Oversight
- Support R&D laboratory testing and quality control processes, ensuring adherence to product specifications for raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods.
- Manage the Supplier Approval program in detail to ensure suppliers meet the company's standards.
- Review and approve production and testing records to verify compliance with current standards.
Training & Development
- Promote a culture of quality, safety, and continuous improvement across the organization.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in quality systems management within alcohol manufacturing, beverage production, or food manufacturing.
- In-depth knowledge of alcohol industry regulations, including TTB and FDA requirements.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of quality systems (e.g., HACCP, ISO, GMP) and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in quality management software and tools.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Certifications
- HACCP certification is required; PCQI or SQF Practitioner certification is a plus.
- Quality-related certifications (e.g., Six Sigma, ISO Lead Auditor) are preferred.
Work Environment
- Remote - Occasional travel may be required for audits, training, or supplier visits. ~25% Travel.
