Targeted Compensation:

$70,000 - $75,000 for entry level engineers

$80,000 - $85,000 for engineers with 2-4 years of experience


Job Summary:

Insight Global is seeking a Materials Scientist/Process Engineer to support the aluminum alloy quality assurance process for a large manufacturing client in Hampton, VA. The ideal candidate could be an entry-level college graduate with strong internship/co-op experience or an experienced Materials Scientist or Materials Engineer with 2-4 years of professional experience. The ideal candidate will also hold a Bachelor's level degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.


Typical Responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible all the metallurgical/materials characteristics pertaining to the investment casting process and our products. This may involve both new development and production castings.
  • Collaborate closely with a Product Engineer who will be responsible for the dimensional aspects of the process/product.
  • Engineer the highest yield and lowest overall cost product while meeting or exceeding all customer defined quality requirements for specified precision aluminum alloy components.
  • In this position you will work in a team environment with other engineers as well as hands on with the manufacturing team so strong communication skills are required.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets technical procedures. Effectively write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Presents information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Applies mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
  • Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of the organization to achieve goals.
  • Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Motivated to continuously drive improvement in assigned portfolio of parts.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgical or Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Materials Science from an accredited college or university.
  • Coursework or equivalent experience in basic statistical and analytical tools
  • Strong internship and/or Co-Op experience


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Leadership ability is desired as this position benefits from being an influential engineer and demonstrated leadership is a plus as the potential advancement exists in 2-4 years.
  • Investment casting experience is a plus
  • 2-5 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment
