We have built over 4,000 modular structures for use in Alberta, BC, SK, the Yukon and Northwest Territories. These structures are in use at over 900 locations serving the education, accommodation, telecommunication, quick service restaurant and oil & gas sectors. We are currently expanding into the Residential, Hotel and Agricultural Grow industries.


Role Description

We are expanding our Estimating Team to support the ongoing company growth. The Estimator will support both the preconstruction and construction phases of a project by preparing and developing all classes of estimates, as well as bills of materials. The Estimator reports to the VP Business Manager who manages the Estimating team.


Location:

This role is office based at our 135,000 square feet manufacturing facility 20 minutes North of Calgary in Crossfield, Alberta, strategically located near a High Load Corridor which allows us to transport loads up to 9 meters high to many parts of Alberta, Saskatchewan, BC, and the United States. Our employees live in Calgary, Airdrie and surrounding communities.


Responsibilities

  • Facilitating pro-active, efficient execution of estimating deliverables from initial concept/budgeting, through to turnover.
  • Liaising and effectively communicating with Clients, Owner Representatives, Consultants, and other external parties.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders to ensure efficient development of estimating deliverables.
  • Critical review of plans and specifications to help identify long lead material potential and assist in development of project scheduling.
  • Identify discrepancies in plans and specifications. Initiate corrections and clarifications with project manager, design department, clients, and consultants.
  • Determining project estimate requirements and developing project scopes of work.
  • Performing takeoffs to determine all material, equipment, labour, and subcontract requirements/pricing.
  • Calculate labour hours/productivity for all self-performed scopes of work and ensure database costs are accurate for future reference.
  • Assist in the preparation and issuance of material and subcontract tender packages.
  • Assist with bid comparisons and recommendations as required.
  • Utilize and maintain a list of qualified subcontractors for use in general contract projects.
  • Gather supporting documentation with respects to insurances, bonding requirements, WCB, COR, QA/QC, and the like.
  • Visit project sites as needed to evaluate all conditions that will impact risk, cost & productivity.
  • Assist the Proposal Coordinator in the development of technical information for all proposal submission requirements.
  • Assist in value engineering and change order valuation, as requested by the client or project manager during preconstruction, manufacturing and construction phases.
  • Attend project kickoff meetings with project management/operations team to ensure full scope of work and cost estimates are understood prior to start of manufacturing and site construction.


Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years building construction estimating experience.
  • Previous stipulated price/lump sum tendering experience on projects from 500k-20M.
  • Previous experience estimating within CM/DB contract models.
  • Previous General Contractor estimating experience in Commercial, Residential, Institutional sectors will be considered an asset.
  • Previous Modular Construction estimating experience will be considered an asset.
  • Construction related post-secondary degree/diploma. Architectural/Engineering/Project Management degrees/diplomas are considered an asset. (CET, AT, etc.)
  • PQS, Gold Seal Certifications will be considered an asset.
  • Expertise in MS Office (including Excel, MS Project and Word)
  • Experience with Smartsheet, Blue Beam or related software, will be considered an asset
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills to complete detailed and comprehensive summaries of information requested.
  • Familiarity with BC, AB, SK, MB and National Building Code Requirements; knowledge of OH&S regulations
