We are seeking a skilled and passionate Computer Engineer with experience in embedded systems to join us on a contractual basis to design the electrical systems of a wireless PC mouse. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in working with OEM parts, firmware development, and regulatory compliance for consumer electronics.
Job Title : Computer Engineer Contractor – Wireless PC Mouse Development
Role Overview : We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Computer Engineer with a strong background in embedded systems, firmware development, and consumer electronics to design and develop a next-generation wireless PC mouse. This role involves hands-on design, prototyping, and optimization of hardware and firmware, ensuring performance, size, and cost efficiency.
Key Responsibilities :
1. Hardware Design and Integration :
- Design and develop low-power electronic systems for a wireless PC mouse.
- Select and integrate off-the-shelf OEM components such as sensors, microswitches, and wireless modules.
- Ensure designs meet performance, size, and cost constraints.
2. Firmware Development :
- Program and debug firmware for wireless communication (e.g., Bluetooth, 2.4GHz), button mapping, and other mouse functionalities.
- Optimize firmware for power efficiency and low-latency performance.
3. Prototyping and Testing :
- Build and test functional prototypes to validate functionality, durability, and user experience.
- Conduct iterative troubleshooting and refine the design based on testing feedback.
4. Regulatory Compliance :
- Assist in achieving certifications such as FCC, CE, and other regulatory standards.
- Ensure adherence to all relevant safety and performance standards.
5. Collaboration and Documentation :
- Work closely with design and product teams to seamlessly integrate electrical systems with the overall product design.
- Document designs, processes, and testing results thoroughly for internal and regulatory purposes.
Required Qualifications :
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electronics Engineering , Embedded Systems Engineering , Computer Engineering , or a related field.
- Proven experience in designing electronic systems for consumer devices, preferably wireless peripherals.
- Expertise in integrating off-the-shelf components (e.g., optical sensors, microswitches, wireless modules) into cohesive systems.
- Proficiency in firmware programming and debugging (e.g., C, C++).
- Familiarity with wireless communication protocols such as Bluetooth or 2.4GHz.
- Experience in prototype development and functional testing.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance processes (e.g., FCC, CE).
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a remote setup.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Previous experience developing input devices like mice or keyboards.
- Knowledge of power management and low-power system design.
- Understanding of ergonomic and human-interface considerations.
Contract Details :
- Work Arrangement : Fully remote but limited to candidates based in Ontario, Canada. Flexible hours with occasional virtual meetings.
