A Day In The Life
The Legal Assistant contributes to the efficient day-to-day operations by providing clerical and administrative support to lawyers. This involves exceptional practice management and client service, the ability to handle competing priorities, and maintaining a high degree of confidentiality and discretion.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Handle all administrative duties such as email and calendar management, coordinating meetings, attending to conflict searches, file opening/closing, preparing expense reports, engagement letters, and routine correspondence.
- Prepare and maintain a bring-forward system and provide appropriate reminders.
- Ensure all physical and electronic filing is organized and up-to-date regularly.
- Liaise with Billing Coordinators for the monthly production of accounts.
- Provide backup coverage in the absence of other assistants or team members.
- Perform conflict searches, open files, complete client identification/verification, and prepare retainer letters.
- Conduct basic online searches (Wills registry, municipal tax, corporate registry, land title office, etc.).
- Assist with the organization and maintenance of estate, trust, and corporate documents and records.
- Communicate with clients and potential clients to collect information, schedule meetings, and answer inquiries.
- Other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of a post-secondary Legal Assistant or Paralegal course.
- A minimum of 3+ years’ working experience (large firm experience preferred) in Wills and Estates or Corporate.
- Experience with BC Online, BC Registries, MyLTSA, ALF is an asset.
- In-depth understanding of business and legal terminology.
- Strong technical skills using Microsoft Office 365.
- Experience working with 3E, iManageWork, DocuSign.

Compensation
The typical salary range for this position is $50,000 - $70,000 annually. The base pay offered is based on location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, internal and market equity.
