As a fast growing tech startup in F&B, we are looking for a motivated and experienced Kitchen Manager to oversee all aspects of our kitchen operations.


Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled and organized Kitchen Manager to oversee the daily operations of our kitchen in CHICAGO . This is both a managerial & tactical role. The Kitchen Manager will be expected to cook consistently and quickly to recipe specification, and recruit & train others to do the same.


The Kitchen Manager will be responsible for managing kitchen staff, ensuring food quality and safety standards, maintaining inventory, and ensuring that the kitchen operates efficiently and effectively. 


The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of kitchen operations, team management, food safety practices, and a passion for delivering exceptional meals to our customers. This role requires strong leadership, communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Geographically flexible is a strong plus, as the Kitchen Manager may be expected to help us launch our service in other major cities & hubs.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Kitchen Operations:

  • Oversee the daily kitchen operations to ensure that food preparation and cooking processes are efficient and up to company standards.
  • Ensure the timely preparation and delivery of food orders, adhering to all recipes and portion control guidelines.
  • Monitor food quality and presentation to ensure it meets Nosh Simple’s standards.

2. Staff Management:

  • Supervise, train, and schedule kitchen staff, including chefs, cooks, and kitchen assistants.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing feedback and training to enhance team skills and efficiency.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and productive working environment.
3. Inventory and Supply Management:
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels for kitchen supplies and ingredients, ensuring the kitchen is fully stocked without excess waste.
  • Place orders for food and supplies as needed, and manage supplier relationships.
  • Oversee the proper storage and rotation of ingredients to minimize food waste and ensure food safety.
4. Health and Safety Compliance:
  • Ensure that all kitchen operations comply with health and safety regulations, including sanitation and food safety standards.
  • Monitor cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen, ensuring all surfaces, utensils, and equipment are sanitized regularly.
  • Enforce proper handling and storage of food to minimize contamination risks.
5. Cost Control and Budget Management:

  • Help control food costs by managing portion sizes, waste, and inventory efficiently.
  • Assist with budgeting and cost control initiatives to meet financial goals.
  • Analyze kitchen performance and recommend improvements to increase profitability.

6. Collaboration with Other Departments:
  • Work closely with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth communication regarding food orders and customer feedback.
  • Collaborate with management to plan and introduce new menu items or seasonal offerings.
  • Assist in the development of marketing strategies for promotions or special events.
7. Problem-Solving and Troubleshooting:
  • Address any issues that arise during kitchen operations, such as equipment malfunctions, staffing issues, or food-related concerns.
  • Quickly resolve customer complaints related to food quality or preparation, maintaining high customer satisfaction.

8. Continuous Improvement:
  • Stay up to date with culinary trends, food safety regulations, and kitchen technologies to continuously improve kitchen operations.
  • Implement new processes or technologies that can improve efficiency, reduce waste, or enhance the customer experience.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Kitchen Manager, Head Chef, or in a similar leadership role within a kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food safety, and sanitation regulations.
  • Ability to manage, motivate, and train a team effectively.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in inventory management and budgeting.
  • Ability to adapt to changing business needs and customer demands.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Culinary degree or formal training in food preparation and kitchen management.
  • Experience working with a variety of cuisines and dietary preferences (e.g., vegan, gluten-free).
  • Knowledge of POS systems and kitchen management software.
  • Passion for food, innovation, and sustainability.
