Cabling Technician (Data Centers)

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Cabling Technician to join our team in Northern Virginia. This role involves installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems in high-tech data center environments. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of experience in cabling, strong technical skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, mission-critical setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Cabling Installation: Install, terminate, and test various types of cables, including fiber optic, CAT5, CAT6, and other low-voltage cables, adhering to industry standards.
- Infrastructure Maintenance: Maintain and organize cable management systems, including patch panels, racks, and pathways.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve cabling issues to ensure optimal system performance.
- Documentation: Accurately document cable layouts, labeling, and testing results for reference and compliance purposes.
- Compliance: Follow safety standards and ensure all work complies with local building codes and industry regulations.
- Collaboration: Work closely with data center engineers, project managers, and other stakeholders to meet project goals and timelines.
- Tools and Equipment: Operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment effectively and safely.
Qualifications
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience as a cabling technician in data center environments.
- Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with structured cabling systems, network infrastructure, and cable types (fiber, copper).
- Certifications: Preferred certifications include BICSI Installer, Fiber Optic Technician, or equivalent.
- Skills:
- Proficient in cable termination and testing.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and wiring diagrams.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in physically demanding environments.
- Comfortable working in elevated areas using ladders or lifts.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in Tier III or Tier IV data center environments.
- Familiarity with DCIM tools and systems.
- Knowledge of advanced cable testing equipment and techniques.
