The Estimator will play a key role in preparing accurate cost estimates for projects, analyzing project documents, and collaborating with project managers, clients, and subcontractors to ensure comprehensive and competitive proposals.
Key Responsibilities
- Review project plans, specifications, and documents to prepare precise cost estimates.
- Analyze subcontractor and supplier bids to identify the most cost-effective options.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for materials, labor, and equipment.
- Develop thorough estimates considering all allowances, contingencies, and escalation factors.
- Coordinate estimate reviews with team members across departments.
- Track historical cost data to support future project budgeting.
- Provide and present cost estimates to various stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost-saving measures without sacrificing quality.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications.
- Knowledge of construction processes, sequencing, scheduling, and codes.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel); Bluebeam experience preferred.
- Bilingual (English & Spanish) preferred but not required.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
- 3+ years of experience in commercial and/or multi-family construction estimating for projects valued between $1M and $20M.
- 5+ years of experience negotiating pricing, scopes, and materials.
- Exceptional math and computational skills.
