Our client is looking for an Assistant Director of Engineering
Location: Baltimore, MD
Salary Range: $90,000 - $95,000
The Assistant Director of Engineering plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of a hotel/building. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a commitment to providing excellent guest service at the highest of standards.
The role of the Assistant Director of Engineering:
- Assist the Director of Engineering in all aspects of hotel and building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, HVAC refrigeration, interior, paint, and decorating, responding to inquiries and problems efficiently, courteously, and professionally to achieve maximum customer satisfaction while complying with all client policies.
- Assist in hiring, training, supervising, scheduling, counseling, and evaluating the performance of maintenance staff, including daily spot checks.
- Ensure proper execution of the work order/request system and follow up on items as necessary.
- Prepare requisitions for purchases and work orders and liaise effectively with the Director of Purchasing.
- Implement preventive maintenance schedules, policies, and rules to ensure an efficient department.
- Maintain logs on the movement of stock items and tools and monitor their distribution.
- Blend administrative and hands-on work.
- Serve as the point person for assisting and training the team in expanding their skill set.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in hotel/building maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- In-depth knowledge of building systems: electrical, plumbing, HVAC, fire & safety, refrigeration.
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS) is a plus.
- Proficiency in using building maintenance software (CMMS) preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
- Proven ability to lead, motivate, and supervise a team of maintenance technicians.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent customer service orientation.
- Ability to effectively delegate tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience with employee training and development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical degree or certification in a technical field such as Mechanical/Electrical or HVAC/Plumbing.
- Experience with budget and capex processes.
