Job Title: Marine Electrical Foreman


Location: Tampa, FL


Job Type: Temp to Hire


Position Overview:

The Marine Electrical Foreman is responsible for overseeing and supervising electrical maintenance, installation, and troubleshooting activities aboard vessels. This role involves ensuring that all electrical systems on the vessel are functioning optimally and meet the safety standards and operational requirements. The Foreman will manage electrical teams, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and in compliance with regulatory standards.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Electrical Systems Management:
  • Supervise the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of electrical systems on-board vessels, including power generation, distribution, and control systems.
  • Ensure the proper functioning of all electrical equipment, including motors, generators, lighting, alarms, and navigational equipment.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure the integration of electrical systems with other vessel operations.
  1. Team Supervision & Leadership:
  • Lead and supervise a team of electrical technicians and electricians, ensuring high performance and safety standards.
  • Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of work.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to junior electrical staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to the electrical team.
  1. Maintenance & Repair:
  • Oversee preventive maintenance schedules for electrical systems to minimize downtime and ensure maximum reliability.
  • Identify and resolve electrical faults and failures, conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.
  • Ensure that electrical repairs are conducted in compliance with technical manuals, standards, and safety regulations.
  1. Safety & Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies while performing electrical maintenance and installations.
  • Promote a culture of safety and ensure that all electrical work is carried out in compliance with international safety standards (SOLAS, ISM Code, MARPOL, etc.).
  • Ensure all electrical works are done in accordance with classification societies' and flag state requirements.
  1. Documentation & Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of electrical work completed, including maintenance logs, inspections, repairs, and any modifications made to the vessel’s electrical systems.
  • Provide regular reports to the Electrical Supervisor or Maintenance Manager regarding the status of electrical systems, maintenance activities, and any critical issues.
  • Ensure all electrical work is documented in accordance with the company’s quality management systems.
  1. Problem Solving & Troubleshooting:
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts during electrical failures or emergency situations, providing technical support to resolve complex issues.
  • Work closely with the vessel’s technical team to identify, diagnose, and fix electrical malfunctions promptly.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs during port visits or in transit, ensuring minimal disruption to vessel operations.
  1. Inventory & Resource Management:
  • Ensure that electrical materials and spare parts are readily available for repairs and maintenance, ordering supplies as needed.
  • Maintain an inventory of electrical tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working order.
  1. Continuous Improvement:
  • Identify areas for improvement in electrical systems and processes to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure reliability.
  • Implement best practices and promote the continuous professional development of the electrical team.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Diploma or Certificate in Electrical Engineering, Marine Electrical Technology, or a related field.
  • STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) certification is a plus.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in electrical maintenance, installation, and repair on board vessels or offshore platforms.
  • Experience leading or supervising a team of electricians or electrical technicians.
  • Strong understanding of marine electrical systems, power generation, and distribution.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent technical knowledge of electrical systems and equipment used on ships (motors, generators, transformers, etc.).
  • Strong leadership, supervisory, and team coordination skills.
  • Proficient in using electrical testing and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, technical drawings, and manuals.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical systems effectively.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certification:
  • Certification in marine electrical systems or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Electrical safety training (e.g., electrical hazard awareness, high voltage systems).
  • Experience:
  • Experience working with automation systems, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and integrated bridge systems is an advantage.
  • Previous experience working in a similar role on large commercial or cargo vessels is highly beneficial.
