Job Description & Requirements Specialty: PACU - Post Anesthesia Care Discipline: RN Start Date: 02/03/2025 Duration: 13 weeks 40 hours per week Shift: 10 hours, days Employment Type: Travel Job Summary: PACU Nurse (Phase I-II Recovery, 10-Hour Mids) Key Details: Shift: 10-hour mids, 12 PM – 10 PM. RTO: Max 7 days (pre-approved only). Call Requirement: Once every 4 weeks. Float Requirement: Overflow areas (e.g., surgical short stay). Weekend Requirement: Varies. Storm Team/Hurricane Team: May be required to report during disasters or mass casualties. Requirements: Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience. ICU experience required (1-2 rating on checklist for screening). Traveler Experience: Required. Certifications: ACLS, BCLS, PALS. Skills: Phase I and II PACU recovery. Manage ICU-level care in PACU. Preferred Experience/Skills: Charge nurse experience. Conscious sedation, FHM, ICP, telemetry, vents. Pediatric experience. ICU background prior to PACU. Patient Details: Ratios: 1:2. Population: Adults and children, recovering from various surgeries: Vascular, neurosurgery, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, bariatric, plastics, ENT, ophthalmology. Pediatric cases: T&A, ears, hernias, cleft lip/palate. Phase II recovery when the unit is full. Special Procedures: Phase I Recovery for surgical patients from: OR, EP Lab, Endo, IR, MRI, ICU. Observation and care duration: 30–90 minutes or until discharge to Phase II, home, post-op tower, or ICU. Overnight patient care includes tower and ICU recovery. Unit Info: Special Equipment: Cardiac monitors, arterial lines, ICP monitoring, dopplers, fetal heart monitors, EKOS, SCD pumps, wound vacs. Systems: Pyxis, EPIC, Perfect Serve. Scheduling: Committee-based. Orientation: Individualized based on experience and skills. Scrubs: Navy blue. Notes: PACU nurses may recover surgical patients in the ICU setting but will not float to ICU. Unit operates 24/7 to meet OR needs. Comprehensive support provided during onboarding. RTO after booking is not allowed and is not allowed to be worked out onsite. Any call offs or additional RTO on unit, could possibly turn into a cancel and DNR. May recover Surgical patients in the ICU setting REQUIRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP: Minimum Years of Experience: 2 Traveler Experience: REQUIRED Locals Accepted / Rate Difference: Yes. If a traveler lives less than 50 miles from the facility, they can inquire through their recruiter what the "local rate” is for the role they are interested in. Skills: Phase 1-2 PACU. Must have some ICU experience (1-2 ratings on checklist for a screen through). They will NOT be floating to the ICU, just often upgrade and manage this level of care in PACU. Additionally, we do send a PACU RN to the STICU to recover patients Certs: ACLS, BCLS, PALS. JOB DETAILS: Ratios: 1:2 Shift: 10HR MIDS 12p - 10p RTO: 7 days MAX; Call Requirement: once every four weeks Float Requirement: Float to areas of overflow patients (typically over to surgical short stay) Weekend Requirement: Varies Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid contract may occur and the contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed PATIENT DIAGNOSES: Vascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery and Orthopedics Gynocology and Urology General and Bariatric Plastics and ENT Opthamoogy Children - T&A, Ears, Hernias, Cleft Lip/Palate Phase II - when that unit is full SPECIAL PROCEDURES / UNIT DETAILS: Phase 1 Recovery Unit that provides observation and care of the patients who have undergone surgical procedures requiring anesthesia. We receive patients directly from the OR, EP Lab, Endo, IR, MRI and patients that are ICU who need to be recovered before being admitted to the units. PACU is a varied and challenging practice environment where recovery may take 30 to 90 minutes, depending on when patient reaches the criteria for discharge to Phase ll, home, post op tower or ICU. Nights and w/ends we recover as well as discharge Phase II patients. Also, have overnight patients, that are tower and/or ICU. SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: Cardiac Monitor - Blood pressure, heart rate respirations, O2 saturation, arterial lines, ICP monitoring, dopplers for vascular checks, fetal heart monitor, EKOS, SCD pumps, wound vacs UNIT SYSTEMS (Medication, Documentation, Communication): Pyxis, EPIC, Perfect Serve SCHEDULING TYPE: Schedule Committee ORIENTATION: New hires receive a comprehensive, individualized orientation tailored to their experience and skill level.
