The R&D Operations Supervisor will oversee the day-to-day operations of our Sweet and Savory Samples and Compounding Teams. This role is crucial in ensuring that our flavor samples are produced efficiently, accurately, on time, and in line with our high standards of quality. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a keen eye for detail, and a deep understanding of flavor formulation and production processes.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor a team of approximately 10 people, providing guidance and support to ensure optimal performance and professional growth. Coordinate daily activities, manage workload distribution, and address any operational issues that arise. Conduct regular team meetings to communicate objectives, provide updates, and foster a collaborative work environment.
- Sample Production: Oversee the preparation and shipping of flavor samples according to customer specifications, formulation guidelines, and quality standards. Ensure all samples are produced and shipped accurately and on time. Implement and maintain rigorous quality control procedures to verify the consistency and quality of samples.
- Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiency gains within the samples and compounding workflows. Collaborate with R&D, and cross functionally, to refine processes, resolve technical issues, and implement new technologies or methods.
- Compliance and Safety: Ensure all activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and safety standards. Maintain accurate records of sample production, ingredient usage, and inventory management. Conduct/support safety training and enforce proper use of equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with R&D, and other departments, to ensure first class support by making samples on time and to the highest quality standards. Liaise with Quality Control and Food Safety to address any issues related to sample quality and consistency. Coordinate with Commercial teams to meet customer requirements and deadlines for sample requests.
- Reporting and Documentation: Prepare and present reports on sample production and shipping metrics, team performance, and project status. Maintain comprehensive documentation of procedures, processes, and quality control measures.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field; advanced degree or certification preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in flavor production, compounding, or a related field, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of flavor formulation, compounding techniques, and quality control practices.
- Must have a strong degree of interpersonal savvy in order to build rapport with direct reports as well as key cross-functional partners.
- Ability to build and develop a strong and effective team by delegating and clearly communicating expectations of direct reports.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with laboratory or production management software.
Salary Range: $67,000 - $95,000
