Background Requirements
- BS degree in Mechanical/Technical Engineering or equivalent practical experience in automotive industry
- Experienced with Ford and/or Honda as customers
- Familiarity with CAD / CAE programs
- At least 5+ years in tier 1 automotive engineering
- Strong knowledge of fundamental design practices, validation, failure modes, and manufacturing of automotive components
- Working knowledge of GD&T, SPC, DFMEA, DVP&R, DFSS, DFA, DFM, APQP, VAVE
- Experience with industry standards (ex. ANSI, ISO, ASME, ASTM, ISTA)
- Knowledge of chassis systems, brake systems or wheel bearings preferred
Job Responsibilities
- The Applications Engineer is the primary technical liaison between the company and the customer(s).
- Effectively relaying customer’s requirements to the organization and interfacing with other functions in the company to obtain the appropriate response
- Provide customers with technical support, including reviewing application data, drawings, calculations, and delivering technical proposals
- Presenting proposals and explaining detailed technical solutions and issues to customers
- Being the technical lead on new programs (APQP) from kick-off to start of production, and ensuring technical milestones are met, while supporting company policies and plans
- Supporting customer complaint resolution through application and failure analysis, in cooperation with Quality and Sales teams, and providing technical reports results as needed
- Support Sales personnel in introducing the company’s products to prospect customers
- Support benchmark activities
- Participate internal/external brainstorming meetings to generate new application or cost reduction ideas (VAVE)
- Collaborate with vendors, industry consortiums, universities, or other internal departments
- Must be flexible with responsibilities / projects / duties as these may change based on workload
