Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000 (dependent on experience)
General Description: The Assistant General & Events Manager is responsible for supporting the team in successfully running Temperance, managing the day-to-day restaurant operations, and maintaining Temperance’s quality and standards in all areas. In addition, this combined role will oversee the Event sales, along with the design, operation, and improvement of our events at Temperance. They will also manage the successful execution of all events at Temperance.
Key Responsibilities
Finance
- Jointly responsible and accountable for the financial performance of the restaurant by driving sales and controlling cost of goods with the management team.
- Assist the Executive Chef with payroll-related information as needed. This includes reviewing and confirming timecards and tips.
Operations
- Manage hourly employees in their daily responsibilities, providing clear, effective direction.
- Work with the Executive Chef to oversee stock management and inventory control.
- Field all complaints of DOH or OSHA/workplace safety violations and actions those items immediately upon receipt; Conduct DOH walk-throughs when on duty to ensure DOH compliance.
- Promote the Temperance vision while establishing us as an innovator within our industry; Act as a cultural and brand ambassador for Temperance.
- Maintain a deep understanding of Temperance’s food and beverage program and be able to summarize our philosophy and describer our different offerings.
Staff Management
- Assist with staff responsibilities (including onboarding, training and development, disciplinary action, etc.). Supports management with sensitive employee conversations and disciplinary action, when necessary.
- Consistently monitor, coach and encourage team members to meet Temperance’s service and hospitality standards.
Event Management
- Establish annual events sales budget in collaboration with Managing Member.
- Maintain constant awareness of budgetary goals; maintains consistent communication with management team regarding goals and current tracking against goals.
- Actively reach out to potential clients, field incoming inquiries and guide clients through the event sales process.
- Build sales through establishing lasting client relationships, targeted Marketing and PR campaigns, neighborhood outreach, guest relations, etc.
- Work with the Executive Chef to maintain relevant menu packages and pricing.
- Provide hands-on support for Events execution.

- Be exposed to common allergens and unique ingredients.
- Handle heavy equipment and machinery.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a Supervisory position in a high-volume restaurant.
- Degree or Certification in Hospitality, Culinary Arts, Culinary Management, or similar subject preferred.
- NYC Food Handlers Certificate.
- Must have the ability to read, speak, understand, follow written directions, and verbal instructions in English.
- Able to work a flexible schedule in order to accommodate business levels (weekend, nights, and holiday availability required).
- Ability to perform job duties and responsibilities well and maintain professionalism and composure under pressure and in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics, which inspire team members to meet and exceed standards.
- Polished personal presentation; grooming meets Company standards, as outlined by Employee Handbook.
- Ability to utilize restaurant management software such as point of sales, reservations management, inventory management, Microsoft Office, and any additional systems needed.
