Under the supervision of the Clinical Director of Optometry, the Optometrist provides comprehensive quality eye care to a broad range of patients. The Staff Optometrist also adheres to all clinical operations, including patient care, compliance with regulatory agencies/requirements (e.g. OSHA, DPH, JCAHO), infection control, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, patient complaints, and incident reporting.

Representative Duties:

Provide comprehensive quality eyecare

  • Provide hands-on care while achieving the highest levels of appropriateness, quality, efficiency, accessibility and responsiveness.
  • Examine eyes, using observation, instruments and pharmaceutical agents, to determine visual acuity and perception, focus and coordination and to diagnose diseases and other abnormalities such as glaucoma or color blindness.
  • Diagnose, manage, and treat conditions and diseases of the human eye and visual system.
  • Examine eyes and visual system, diagnose problems or impairments, prescribe corrective lenses, and provide treatment.
  • Prescribe therapeutic drugs to treat specific eye conditions.
  • Maintain knowledge of relevant medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides
  • Analyze test results and develop a treatment plan.
  • Educate and counsel patients on contact lens care, visual hygiene, lighting arrangements and safety factors. An interest in scleral lens is beneficial.

Qualifications

  • Current unrestricted license to practice optometry in the State of Massachusetts
  • Current controlled substance certificate
  • Training appropriate to practice
  • Excellent customer care skills
  • Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of quality eye care, evaluations, diagnosis and treatment
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements
  • Knowledge of relevant medications and non-pharmaceutical patient care aides
  • Ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment.
  • Residency training preferred.
  • Strong ocular disease background preferred.
