Job Description

Environment Art Outsource Manager


This is a great opportunity for an Environment Art Outsource Manager or an Environment Artist with experience in reviewing art and providing feedback to external partners. Working on AAA console titles, you will collaborate with experienced internal and external artists to deliver the highest quality game environments. You will work with external partners through documentation and feedback, creating art content, polishing, and fixing art bugs. Modeling, sculpting, texturing, and surfacing skills are required.


Terms:

  • 18-month contract, 40-hours per week
  • Location: Vancouver, BC
  • Hybrid (3 days in office, 2 remote)


Job Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the Environment Art team during all production phases.
  • Create 3D assets and textures.
  • Fix bugs and polish in-game assets.
  • Actively accept feedback from the environment art lead and art director.
  • Work well under deadlines; be self-motivated and collaborative.
  • Promptly review work submitted by External Partners, ensuring it meets quality standards set by our Art and Technical Directors and Leads.
  • Work with External Partners to ensure timely, budget-compliant, and quality work.
  • Provide materials and documentation to External Partners.
  • Train External Partners and internal stakeholders on pipelines and processes used in External Development.
  • Maintain regular communication and healthy relationships with External Partners, including availability outside normal working hours to cover different time zones.
  • Assist in due diligence, onboarding, and off-boarding of External Partners.


Must-Haves:

  • 4+ year of Environment Art in video games with at least one shipped title
  • Prompt review of work submitted by External Partners, ensuring quality standards, timely budget-compliant work
  • Knowledge of 3D asset creation, high-quality models, sculpts, textures, and surfaces
  • Comfort with organic and hard surface asset creation
  • Proficiency with Maya or other 3D software, Z-Brush, Substance Painter or Mixer, and Photoshop.


Requirements:

  • You have knowledge and experience in game development.
  • You have experience working with external teams or experience providing art feedback
  • You have a portfolio with examples of environment artwork.
  • You can model, sculpt and texture environmental assets and surfaces.
  • You are very comfortable with Maya or other 3D software, Z-Brush, Substance Painter or Mixer, and Photoshop.
  • You are familiar with project managing tools such as Jira or Confluence.
  • You are comfortable with a modern game engine such as Unreal, Frostbite or Unity.
  • You possess excellent communication skills.
  • You work well with deadlines and are self-motivated and directed
  • Being open to travel domestically or internationally for work is a plus.
