Position Overview:

At Vertex Education, we believe that technology is a cornerstone of educational success, enabling schools to deliver exceptional learning experiences. As the IT Director, you will lead the development and delivery of IT services and solutions for our partner schools, ensuring their systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with their educational goals. By fostering a customer-centric approach, you will collaborate closely with school leaders, manage a high-performing IT team, and guide the implementation of innovative technology strategies. Your leadership will change lives through education as you support schools to optimize their IT operations, empowering students, educators, and administrators to thrive in a connected and evolving digital world.


Essential Functions:

1. Customer Engagement and Support

  • Collaborate with school leaders to align IT strategies and tactics with their operational and educational needs. Provide customer training as needed.
  • Provide financial and budgetary guidance and ownership to schools in determining customer’s IT operating and capital expense budgets, ensuring alignment with future goals.
  • Support school leaders by leveraging IT expertise to guide informed decision-making on infrastructure and technology investments.
  • Promote a customer-centric experience by fostering strong relationships internally and externally and by maintaining high levels of satisfaction.


2. IT Operations Excellence and Continuous Improvement

  • Oversee the performance and availability of customer IT network and systems, ensuring stability, uptime, and scalability.
  • Execute improvements that improve service level metrics, including response times, resolution times, system performance, and customer experience
  • Manage the lifecycle of customer IT assets and software, ensuring timely replacements, efficient utilization, and minimal waste.
  • Utilize lean methodologies to standardize work, streamline workflows, reduce inefficiencies, and enhance service delivery.


3. Cybersecurity, Network, and Systems Advancement and Compliance

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to establish standards and safeguard customer systems and data.
  • Champion the advancement of cybersecurity measures, including threat detection and risk management by conducting regular assessments and audits to improve security position.
  • Ensure compliance with IT regulations and industry standards, including data privacy and security protocols.
  • Advance network infrastructure optimization by assessing performance gaps and developing next generation technology solutions as required


4. Strategic Planning and Expansion

  • Lead the implementation of IT systems, infrastructure, and EdTech solutions supporting growth for current and new customer schools.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend scalable solutions to meet customer’s current and future needs.
  • Develop IT roadmaps to support customer organizational growth and geographic expansion plans.
  • Oversee IT service offerings, tools, and platforms to meet needs of new school partnerships to enhance operational efficiency and user outcomes.


5. Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and manage teams totaling 15-20 IT professionals, including 3-4 direct reports
  • Develop and implement professional growth plans for team members to enhance skills and performance.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and outcomes across the IT team to achieve operational goals.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for resolving escalated IT issues and enhancing team’s professional growth.


Required Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.


Experience:

  • 8+ years of progressive IT experience in a mid-to-large organization.
  • 5+ years in a leadership or managerial role overseeing multi-site IT operations.
  • Proven success in managing IT systems and infrastructure across multiple locations.
  • Experience with IT financial management, including budget creation and asset management.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing IT policies, procedures, and cybersecurity measures.
  • Hands-on experience with systems, cloud platforms, and network security implementation.
  • Experience actively managing vendor relationships and engagements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data integrity, using advanced analytics tools, and leveraging educational data for actionable insights.
  • Experience with ERPs (Workday) and Productivity Software (Google and Microsoft).


Preferred Qualifications:

Education:

  • Master’s degree in a related field or MBA.


Experience:

  • Background in IT systems supporting the education sector or charter school networks.
  • Knowledge of and experience with EdTech platforms and tools.
  • Familiarity with federal funding programs, such as the E-Rate program.
  • Experience applying lean methodologies to IT operations for process optimization.
  • Previous director-level experience preferred


Credentials:

  • Certifications in IT leadership or management, such as ITIL, PMP, or CISM.
  • Additional certifications in security (e.g., CISSP) or networking (e.g., CCNA), cloud platform management and/or DevOps.


Background Checks:

  • Must pass a criminal history background check.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.


Physical & Travel Requirements:

  • Periodic travel between campuses.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
  • Local and in-state travel is necessary.
