Job Description

A prominent commercial real estate company in Rockville, MD is seeking a Payroll and Systems Manager to join their team. This person will play an important role in overseeing and managing aspects of payroll and human resources and serve an invaluable role to their team. This position is responsible for managing and processing the bi-weekly payroll for the company and its properties as well as lead and manage HRIS projects that support the business goals. Status: Direct Hire

Salary: $110K-$135K DOE


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Payroll:
  • Oversee and execute all aspects of payroll operations, including bi-weekly payroll processing, monthly commission processing, and year-end activities. Direct the collection, calculation, and entering of payroll data.
  • Balance payroll tax accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies with payroll vendor.
  • Prepare payroll reports including GL upload for the accounting group.
  • Process and reconcile 401(k) retirement deductions (deferrals, match, and loans) with Principal.
  • Work closely with HR and Benefits to ensure employees on Leave of Absence are paid correctly, benefit deductions taken, and the employee is returned to work in the payroll system.
  • Generate payroll-related data for budgeting and forecasting purposes.
  • Oversee the maintenance of department records.
  • Process verification of employment and unemployment claims.
  • Process worker’s compensation claims. Maintain WC files, prepare OSHA-300 log. Prepare quarterly report with WC totals by property.
  • Backup processing for corporate payroll.
  • HRIS:
  • Manage human resources technology and analytics to include Payroll, Applicant Tracking, Learning Management System, Benefits Administration, and related reporting.
  • Lead the implementation of all HRIS systems to meet workforce requirements, focusing on automation and reducing manual processes.
  • Communicates effectively and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders at all levels, from end users to executives.
  • Monitor technology trends in HRIS to anticipate and prepare for emerging HR technology solutions, considering business and user needs.
  • Oversee the analysis of payroll and HR data to generate reports, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for leadership.
  • Leadership:
  • Provide leadership and direction for Payroll, HR, and Benefits team members in regards to HRIS system, including goal setting, training, development, and coaching.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal wage and hour laws, stay updated on changes and advise senior leadership on compliance strategies.
  • Execute other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience payroll processing using HRIS systems (or a combination of equivalent education and experience).
  • Experience with HRIS systems, Paycom preferred.
  • Solid computer skills and experience with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Familiar with federal and state payroll laws, payroll tax deposits, and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, process and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Effective problem-solving skills and strong communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Flexibility to work schedules to accommodate payroll deadlines.
  • Ability to speak Spanish, preferred.
