Structural Engineer
Summary:
This position will work directly with one of the experienced PEs performing structural observations of existing residential, commercial structures, as well as various phases of new construction in the Charlotte Metro area office. In addition, they will provide basic and routine support for assigned projects using CAD to design, modify, or otherwise edit a project document. They will need to use leadership, communication, and organizational skills. They will be responsible for interfacing with clients, contractors, engineers, architects, and others of varying technical abilities.

- Projects primarily located in North Carolina / South Carolina.
Minimum Requirements:
- Self-directed, motivated and take pride in your work.
- Minimum qualification is a certificate of completion in a drafting/engineering technology program (associate degree in drafting or equivalent is preferred).
- At least 1 year CAD work experience.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office suite (Word & Excel).
- Ability to maintain professional correspondence with external customers.
- Ability to understand and manipulate pre-configured design calculations.
- Ability to understand and interpret written specifications.
- Ability to work from verbal instructions as well as sketches from engineers in the preparation of complete sets of complex drawings which include multiple views, details and assembly drawings.
- Ability to understand and interpret project plan drawings and typical structural fabrication drawings.
- Ability to perform basic structural calculations to analyze existing problems and design the repairs to the existing structures (steel, concrete and wood/timber).
- Uses CAD system to enter the required data, such as precise measurements and commands, in order to generate construction drawings, renderings, report graphics and other digital images.
- Able to prepare layouts, drawings and designs from detailed sketches and/or drawings made by technicians, designers or technical professionals, converting paper documents into computerized files.
- Able to use CAD to redesign, modify, or otherwise edit existing designs.
- Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and possess a professional demeanor.
- Ability to self schedule and mobilize for site inspection/investigation.
- Conduct on-site inspection/investigation including documentation of distress, field testing, photographing, and sketching and prepare summary reports.
- Analyze, research, and investigate data to develop alternate schemes for solving problems.
- Valid North Carolina State Drivers license and provide proof of automobile insurability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Make mathematical calculations.
- Writing technical reports to clients concerning the condition of their existing structures.
- Ability to work with AutoCAD 2010 or newer.
- Ability to work with Beam software (ie ForteWeb, BeamChek).
- Ability to understand and interpret project plan drawings and typical structural fabrication drawings.
- Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, geometric constraints, engineering skills, and contractual requirements.
- Interfaces technical issues with project managers, customers, and general contractors.
- Ability to market engineering services in the field to potential clients.
- Coordinate work with other disciplines such as Field Construction, Project Management, Manufacturing, etc.
- Organize, draft, and coordinate technical documents Complete detailed drawings from sketches, plans, specification and written and verbal instruction using computer-aided drafting programs.
- Revise or change drawings.
- Updating existing AutoCAD drawings.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD (2D).
- Supporting other Designers and Engineering staff.
- Checks final drawing to verify completeness, clarity and accuracy of drawing.
- Operates plotter to transfer developed drawings to an appropriate medium.
- Other duties as assigned.
