Title: NPI Engineer - Materials
Job Summary:
The NPI Engineer - Materials at Deringer-Ney is responsible for managing the new product introduction (NPI) process for engineered materials products. This role oversees the development of new processes from prototype to full production release, following a stage gate approach. The engineer ensures successful contract manufacturing activities, process manufacturing readiness, and obtains all necessary approvals for release to serial production.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead the NPI process for engineered materials products, managing all stages from prototype to pre-production and full release.
- Develop and optimize manufacturing processes for new products, ensuring efficient and cost-effective production.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales to ensure successful product launches.
- Prepare and deliver presentations on project status and technical aspects to management and other stakeholders.
- Conduct and analyze feasibility studies for new product concepts and materials.
- Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources to meet product launch targets.
- Identify and mitigate risks throughout the NPI process.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations for precious metals and engineered materials.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Support continuous improvement initiatives for existing products and processes.
- Assist in troubleshooting production issues related to new products.
- Participate in customer meetings to gather requirements and present technical solutions.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies in precious metals and engineered materials.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians in NPI methodologies and best practices.
- Contribute to the development of NPI strategies and procedures.
- Create and maintain product documentation, including specifications, process instructions, and quality control plans.

Required Skills/Abilities :
- Strong knowledge of materials science, particularly metallurgy. Experience with precious metals and their applications is a plus.
- Proficiency in product development methodologies and stage-gate processes.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Experience with statistical analysis and design of experiments (DOE) techniques.
- Familiarity with quality management systems and standards (e.g., ISO 9001 and ISO13485).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and project management software.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and test results.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and processes.
- Time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Professional certifications in project management (i.e. , PMP), lean manufacturing, and/or Six Sigma are a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods in an office environment.
- Capability to occasionally lift and move items up to 20 pounds.
- May require periods of walking or standing in manufacturing areas.
- Visual acuity to read technical documents and inspect product samples.
