Field Service Technician – Solar Energy Industry


About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and dedicated Field Service Technician to support the construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role will focus on providing exceptional on-site technical expertise and project support across utility, commercial, and industrial solar projects. The ideal candidate is passionate about renewable energy, well-versed in PV systems, and thrives in hands-on field environments.


Key Responsibilities

  • Project Coordination and Management: Oversee and coordinate PV system construction, installation, and maintenance activities. Ensure all tasks are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Field Services: Deliver value-added on-site services, including inspections, troubleshooting, and system repairs. Address customer concerns with a professional and solution-oriented approach.
  • Quality Assurance and Control (QA/QC): Perform QA/QC inspections throughout the PV project lifecycle, ensuring systems meet all applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • System Design and Implementation: Create system designs for DC distribution wiring and assist in system layout and installation planning.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve issues related to PV systems, including electrical, mechanical, and structural components. Collaborate with internal teams and clients to implement solutions.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards such as NEC, UL, IEC, and TuV. Provide documentation and reports as needed.
  • Customer Service: Foster strong relationships with clients by delivering excellent service, timely follow-ups, and proactive communication.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, and system performance. Prepare detailed reports for internal teams and clients.
  • Safety and Training: Adhere to all safety protocols and standards. Provide training to customers and colleagues on system operations and maintenance when necessary.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel to project sites (up to 30% of the time) to provide field services and support on-site teams.


Required Qualifications

  • Proven field experience in the construction, commissioning, operations, and maintenance of PV systems.
  • Expertise in Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) throughout the PV project lifecycle.
  • Hands-on experience with utility, commercial, and industrial PV projects.
  • Strong knowledge of solar construction terminology, concepts, and installation practices.
  • Ability to work in extreme environments and lift up to 20kg (approx. 50 lbs).
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Willingness to travel at least 30% of the time.
  • Commitment to delivering exceptional customer service with proactive follow-up.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with applicable codes and standards such as NEC, UL, IEC, and TuV.
  • Excellent organizational and self-management skills, with the ability to work independently.
  • Positive attitude, adaptability, and willingness to accept constructive feedback.
  • Ability to address technical challenges with a solution-oriented mindset.


Preferred Skills and IT Proficiency

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical for system design and layout.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote.
  • Experience using mobile phone applications for fieldwork documentation and communication.


Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English (spoken and written) is required.
